Kevin Martin (OP) User ID: 351899 United States 04/10/2008 09:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Start of this period will be with the tornadic dynamics centering over the Little Rock, Arkansas area. This is very much a trouble spot as squalling to the East will be out of there. Most likely leading to instability in the area. Surface low in the upper plains deepening with time to allow backed surface winds toward it. This means that any storm forming in this environment will produce a tornado. A large area of level 4 will exist over the much of Central/Eastern/Northern Arkansas today. This level 4 is not to be taken lightly as it is working on what happened in TX the other day. Latest satellite images suggest clouds hampering the first part of the day in instability wise, however with time of the day this should fade. Fade it should, because by Evening time, this area is under a dangerous situation. Why do I say this? Because a dryslot in the mid levels moves in. This means aided instability over Central/Eastern AR will give way to possibly a NEW developing section or line of storms, extending from Northern AR/MO border, Southward just West of LIttle Rock, and all the way to Eastern,TX. This line would be in a favored environment for tornadic potential so embedded tornadoes in this line as it matures is very possible. At this same time, isolated cells possible ahead of this line would put Memphis,TN at risk during this evening so remember this. Evening time = possible tornadic activity in or around the Memphis TN area. Level 3-4 is being detected and any storms going up in that area would rotate instantly. Because of the seabreeze factor, Southwestern Louisiana will have a marginal area of tornado risk at this time, moving NE. By after sunset, the line that would form just West, or over Little Rock several hours prior will have moved Eastward toward the Memphis,TN area. Level 3 exists inside of this and South winds at the surface are present so indeed there is a chance of tornadoes embedded in this line. Indications are the line will split into a "leg" feature. What is a leg feature? Solid line on top, split to 2 branches or legs on the Southern end. This is very evident in wind flow around the line prior, and the Eastern line would be the most tornadic. Line would extend all the way to the Central and Southern Louisiana areas, including the Gulf Coast. Level 4 does exist as well in Northwestern Mississippi so I wouldn't be surprised of embedded rotation, bow segments or tornadoes in this line. Damaging winds are a def in this but we don't forecast straight line winds. None-the-less, these storms will be having embedded tornadoes in them. A dangerous setup in which the squall line associated with Super Tuesday's tornado event this year had. Little Rock will be clear by this time. By well into the night, around 10pmCDT or Midnight, this line would weaken in tornadic just a bit as it crosses Western TN, however the Western and Northern Mississippi areas will hold on to level 4. Winds coming at the line at the surface due South in that area, so the chance of embedded tornadoes is a sure bet. Northern Impulse splits off to level four in the Western Kentucky area, having crossed Memphis and Western TN, moving NE hours before. This is a level 4 outline and Kentucky should take that seriously with embedded tornado chances in it. Indications of a slight South Southwestern surface flow is making me think it could be a linear type line in those parts, but tornadoes, embedded should also be forecasted, especially when you have such high shear levels in the atmosphere. Tornado potential does make it to Southern IL/IN as well, however on a more marginal chance at level 2. Tornado Labs outlines..Remember first one is around noon CDT and increasing every few hours with each map. Last one is generally around midnight tonight.. If they are right, Kudos, but I'm getting indication of another line forming either on top, or West of LIttle Rock by the Evening. So what about the Ft smith AR area?? killdamon User ID: 365637 United States 04/10/2008 09:22 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Apparent Tornadoes Hit Texas, Oklahoma Severe.Weather 2 hours ago SAN ANGELO, Texas — An apparent tornado with winds of up to 70 mph moved through West Texas early Thursday, tearing shingles from roofs, shattering glass and flipping vehicles. Paramedics were dispatched throughout the city, but San Angelo police didn't have a number of injured. The storm pelted the city with quarter-sized hail just after midnight with winds of up to 70 mph, said Hector Guerrero, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in San Angelo. The National Weather Service received reports of cars and a tractor trailer flipped over. At least one building downtown was damaged and power lines were down in some areas, Guerrero said. Shortly after, the storm system moved out of the area, Guerrero said. San Angelo is about 110 miles southeast of Midland. Hours earlier, two apparent tornados also moved through another section of West Texas, and there were also reports of a tornado in Oklahoma, where one woman died when her car skidded off the road in heavy rain. In Breckenridge, 125 miles west of Dallas, at least five homes were destroyed and minor injuries were reported, police said. Robbie Dewberry, an administrator at Stephens Memorial Hospital, said the hospital treated three people for storm-related injuries. He said the hospital was operating on emergency backup power. Crews with Oncor Electric Delivery were surveying the extent of the damage in Breckenridge, where about 3,500 customers were without power, Oncor spokesman Neal Blanton said. KTVT-TV of Dallas-Fort Worth showed footage of damage at the small airport in the town. A twin-engine plane sat amid the crumpled sheet metal that had been a hangar. Several outbuildings were also damaged, but officials could not immediately confirm that the damage was caused by a tornado, said Jessica Schultz, a National Weather Service meteorologist. Another possible tornado hit Palo Pinto County between Graford and Oran, meteorologist Jennifer Dunn said. Officials said roofs had been blown off a few homes and trees were down in Oran, about 80 miles west of Dallas. In Oklahoma, meteorologist Andrew Taylor said there were two reports of a tornado in Choctaw County in the southeastern part of the state, although no damage was reported. Taylor said the reports could have been about the same tornado. Flooding caused the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to close five highways in the state, and the National Weather Service issued flood warnings for several eastern Oklahoma waterways. Heavy rain and flash flooding were also reported in Arkansas. Entergy Arkansas said it opened spillway gates at the Remmel Dam in Hot Spring County to release excess water from Lake Catherine, about 50 miles southwest of Little Rock. In Polk County, along the Oklahoma state line, U.S. 71 was covered with as much as a foot of water, while state Route 375 had 6 inches of water on it, the weather service said. Sheriff's officials said workers at the hospital in Mena were putting sandbags in place to keep water out of the emergency room. Meanwhile, a small tornado caused scattered damage in southwest Michigan, authorities said. No injuries were reported, but authorities said several horses were trapped inside a barn damaged by the stormy weather early Wednesday. [link to www.comcast.net] |
