Why are Americans and Canadians in their 50s such bullies?

Seriously. They think they can steamroll anyone, and just keep bullying them until they give up. Primarily they seem to want to expand and protect their assets at all cost - laws and ethics and other's people's property be damned. Is is that they know they will soon be disabled seniors so they are trying their hardest to collect what assets they can now? They people I've had experiences with are white, and some European immigrant.

I had a neighbor in his 50s hunting and trespassing on my wilderness property, even inviting paying guests to do so, refused to give it up, even after filing complaints with law enforcement; a landlord said she would refund me the deposit on moveout date and never did, and she kept fighting it in court until a technicality dismissed it; and today some c-class driver and his wife in their 50s hit my car, I asked him to just replace a $40 part he damaged, but he dug his heels in and refused, so the cops came and gave him a citation.
