The Anti Christian Allegory in Stephen King’s “Misery”
You can clearly see it in the movie.

In this short clip, you see the neat, sterile bedroom, and then a pig comes in.

Actor James Caan’s obvious fear and loathing invite the audience to ridicule and laugh at his “saviour” and her pet.

Note the flashing gold Christian cross hanging on Misery’s neck.

The movie was based on Stephen King’s book, starring James Caan, and directed by Rob Reiner.

All Chosen.

Does the book make a thing about her wearing a cross?

The cross thing could be taken different ways. Maybe that she is a hypocrite? Or trying to present an image of being a law abiding, decent person rather than an absolute psycho?

Stephen King isn’t

His father, Donald Edwin King, was a merchant seaman who was born with the surname Pollock but changed it to King as an adult.

Continuing the Christian symbology.

A “holocaust” of sorts.

Threats of buring James Caan’s character.

Buring the book so that the character of “Misery” can live again - resurrected if you will.

And again the ridiculous portrayal of the Christian oppressor with her “Heavens to Betsy”’s etc.

A great film, underated. I agree, Caan's character is 'fool' as rendered by his circumstances. For the audience we love his misery . Of course currently in this culture such fooleries are everything, and doling it out in such fashion is a sport supported by men and women.

Pretty sure King’s wife is too.
