What's the difference in nutrition and minerals from hydroponic grown versus the soil

Interesting to see tomatoes, beans and peas have relatively high yields as well. Beans would be much more beneficial given their protein content.

That's a very important question. I have only had an outdoor garden and don't know the answer but here is some info from the web.

"Hydroponics vs. Soil: Nutrition
In hydroponics, plants make use of the same nutrients as they would if they were placed in soil. The difference in both systems is the absorption of nutrients. Research shows that plants in hydroponics will absorb nutrients better than they would if there were in the soil.

Nitrogen: 2.13% better nutrient absorption than soil
Phosphorus: 0.82% better nutrient absorption than soil
Potassium: 1.81% better nutrient absorption than soil
Calcium: 0.32% better nutrient absorption than soil
Magnesium: 0.40% better nutrient absorption than soil
This explains why hydroponics plants tend to grow faster than soil. This will also help in terms of reducing farming costs. With the plants absorbing more nutrients and growing faster, you will have less nutrient waste and save up on the cost of acquiring nutrients."

"Thanks to the efficient delivery of nutrients, hydroponic food is able to provide much the same if not improved nutrient levels as traditionally grown food. Where hydroponic food holds advantages over traditionally grown food is in the reduced risk of contamination and the near-complete elimination of pesticides and herbicides."

Seems from the amazing yields that a family could grow a variety of vegetables in a very small square foot space.

I don't doubt those yields, but they would consume a very significant amount of soon to be non-existent chemical fertilizers with a complicated supply chain along with numerous inputs of plastics and other materials that will soon also not exist.

You can not have a self sufficient garden food supply when you are dependent on commercial hydroponic solutions, pumps, artificial lighting and supplies. It might be productive but it would be impossible to sustain during crisis.

It is not organic in the natural sense of the meaning. How does this artificial environment effect the long term health impact on the plants and humans?

I knew a man that attempted to switch his large commercial chicken farm over to organic feed. Their bodies had mutated to be only able to absorb the synthetic nutrients and could no longer absorb the natural nutrients from organic feed and they all died.

This topic is a good debate on many levels. I have many questions and concerns.

I am set up to have an indoor hydroponic emergency winter food growing system just in case of that kind of emergency that would prevent any outdoor gardening and natural lighting like a nuke winter.
But it is not my first choice of production for any food I consume, home grown or purchased.

Another point is the flavor of the foods.
I have been free range farming and growing most of my food in good compost soil with homemade garden tea for many years until I broke my back a few years ago and started buying commercially grown from the store. The taste is not the same and my body feels depleted. The meat, the eggs and produce are so bland and tasteless. It does not give my body the energy that just a little meal of my home grown foods provided. I can eat a regular meal of store bought food and still feel hungry, my body craving more nutrients and that natural food sensation.

Oh please, they all died because the use of glyphosate promote grow of pathogenics while wiping good biome...they appear to survive because they are fed antibiotics by the ton (which is also the reason of the impressive grow)

Once you remove one of those elements whike also using sick animals then you are pretty much doomed.

If you want organic...first lern tnat US organic is not organic, then produce your fed and gets your animals from organic farms.

How do you make your own complete hydroponic solutions from locally available natural ingredients and home made replenishing testing abilities to make sure it is the complete and right nutrients?

Can you make a hydroponic system that does not require purchased, manufactured testing and growing supplies?

I do not understand what you were trying to say. But he started his flocks over with multi generational organically grown new chicks and had more productive in demand, high quality flocks he was able to sell for twice the price. It was a major expense to start over and organic feed is much more expensive but in the long run it paid off big time and he felt much better about the quality of food he produced.

I got a bunch of hydroponic tomato plants going right now. I've never grown them inside under lights, but I will say I am astonished by the growth rate.

I used rockwool cubes and planted straight in, then transferred them to a deepwater culture setup.

should have tomatoes in about a month, basil and lettuce in two weeks and cucumbers in 2 months.

cant wait for the fully homegrown salad with micro greens to top it off.

Another question. I stocked up on some hydroponic solutions for emergency preps about ten years ago. Does it have a shelf life? Is it expired? Does it go bad, become toxic or inactive?

Great topic, I will read replies later in the day on my break. Have a great day fellow farmers.

Another question. I am not a pot fan or farmer, but I am wondering if naturally outdoor grown pot has a different high or medicinal value than hydroponic artificial light grown? Has anyone tested it to see?

let me help you interpret here. I think what hes trying to say is that the chemically raised chicken became too used to their environment. So when he switched the feed to organic it messed them up. I know in hydroponics once the plant gets used to its environment you cant put it in soil... so maybe something similar.

we start our marajuanas in hydro,, then put the rockwools into soil.

Ph for hydro 5.8, then switch to 6.8 when in soil..
