Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83137282 The San Francisco African American Reparations Advisory Committee, which advises the city on developing a plan for reparations for Black residents, released its draft report last month to address reparations – not for slavery, since California was not technically a slave state, but "to address the public policies explicitly created to subjugate Black people in San Francisco by upholding and expanding the intent and legacy of chattel slavery." "While neither San Francisco, nor California, formally adopted the institution of chattel slavery, the tenets of segregation, white supremacy and systematic repression and exclusion of Black people were codified through legal and extralegal actions, social codes, and judicial enforcement," the draft states. I wonder if they are being considered in this conversation. Quoting: LucyLucid won't the unmentionables be offended if they don't get their reparations first? It feels like someone is making a weird and twisted joke by making one of the states that didn't exploit African people in slavery at all, but DID exploit asian people in indentured servitude, exploitative "gold rush" human trafficking, and sent them to concentration camps during WW2, into the FIRST US state to pay reparations to black people. It's not even offensive to anyone, it's just overt clowning. They are pandering and performing just for the sake of it. It has nothing to do with anyones real human historic experience. |

No reason people that had no family involved in slavery should pay. 75% of slave owners in South Carolina were J - ish This isn't about slavery. Didn't you read the article? If they were not actually enslaved, it was close enough. In New York, it was the Italian and Irish immigrants that dug the subway tunnels and worked in the caissons excavating the river bottoms for bridge piers. Dangerous work as indentured servants, near slavery. My Irish ancestors probably did some of that work. Where's my fucking money? |
