Sad to hear that, it happened yet again ... the NYC subway is a rough place, some people are completely out of it and you got to look always over your shoulders.

The lack of security barriers near the tracks doesn't help either. That place needs a complete overhaul, in every way.

All the BIG money pulled out. 5th Ave is EMPTY, dark and abandoned. Foot traffick is up again, but everyday ANOTHER small business closes. Landlords gouging so much they have to close, even if busy. Taxpayers subsidize the empty retail storefronts, so its much more profitable to be empty.

The big money doesn't have a reason to be there anymore. Cities like New York used to provide unique benefits that various large businesses and wealth managers needed. Being in close physical proximity to Wall street, for instance, or the offices of a wide array of various business utility providers of any thinkable niche. Do you need to source 100 tons of Tin for that factory you manage? You can find that in New York. Do you need to find someone to insure a cargo vessel of any sort at all? Yeah, New York will have an office somewhere you can walk in and get that deal done. Anything, at all, your business would possibly need, no matter what it is or where it is, could be accomplished by a shrewd individual working for you in New York.

Thing is, Frank in Bumfuk Indiana can get all those same things too nowadays. That is the wonder of the information age.

So cities like New York no longer have a reason to exist. They no longer have that top class that brought in the nation's productivity in the first place and let the whole city make money serving what they needed.

Now it is just a husk, feeding on itself.

Actually right now 5th Ave is alive and kicking. The businesses are returning, even though you can still see some empty stores, not many.

But I'd say that bad management and big corruption caused all these problems. The previous NYC mayor was really a bad irresponsible one, also he didn't have a problem shutting down the businesses during covid and pushing the vaccines.
