you have to count the initial $100 independently since that was a total lose on other sales

store lost 60 dollars

$100...he took the cash but "gave" it back for $70 in goods and $30 in cash.

Now the $70 in product probably cost the store a lot less but thats probably nit picking.

Just cross out the $100

He stole $70 worth of merchandise and $30 cash, he got paid to steal.

In that case, the store lost $60?

I didn't think it through for too long, but it seems that they lost 100 to begin with, got 70 of it back (assuming that the products that they store sells did not cost them any money for them to to acquire), thus leaving them at negative 30, then they gave him 30 in change which went against the store again, that is because they gave him 30 in change on the 100 that they initially lost due to the said theft?

I'm probably wrong, but that's about all the thought that I want to put into it at the moment lol

They lost $30 cash and $70 worth of goods, so total loss is $100.

And though the goods are marked up and the store didn't pay $70 to acquire them, they lost the opportunity to sell them for $70 to a customer who paid with their own money.

Yeah. As long as we aren’t counting the profit margin. Some stores markup 50%. But just being operational costs money. Simplistically the store lost $100.

So did he get caught or what? He may have lost more money than he stole depending on his lawyer fees and bail. As far as the store loss it’s a lot less than what he may end up losing in the long run

They lost the opportunity to sell the product for $70, which they would have if he hadn't stole it.

So $30 cash and $70 worth of product for a loss of $100.

Yes. Even if he kept that $100 and used one of his own, he both spent and returned the $100 that he stole, that's why you cross it out of the equation, it's redundant.
