The spam brand spread ain't too bad, basically its ground up spam.....the lower end potted meats are organy in smell that needs the heavy nitrates to cover it up....

The deviled ham with cream cheese makes great appetizers.

After reading this thread I have a craving for fried Spam slices.

Every time I go to the grocery store, 9-months now, I buy a can of soup, fish, stew, or otherwise, above and beyond what I would ordinarily buy. It’s an extra $2.50 to $8.00 per can. It’s all good stuff that’s good for 2-4 or 5 protein meals, and it doesn’t break the bank. I don’t eat any of that stash, and I’ve built up a large survival assortment. I did the same with frozen whole chickens, vegetables, and beef, until I ran out of freezer space. Need more freezer space. Looking into that now. And the other good thing is that all these foods you bought today and tomorrow will be much cheaper than when the shtf.

I looked at the cans I had just thrown away and found two empty that are recalled. I am going to pinch a loaf in those cans and take them back for a refund.

The lowest priced canned meats in my preps are those 5 ounce (steel) cans of Hormel Smoked Ham. I've had those on my Amazon monthly subscription order up until now. I was getting them for just under $19 a case (12 cans per case). They taste pretty good and I like to add them to soups (after cooking the soup). They are good in sandwiches too. I'll even eat them straight out of the can. However .. the price has suddenly DOUBLED overnight to over $38 a case (still 12 cans). WTF?

And that's not the only canned meats that have risen overnight in recent weeks. And it's not just Amazon, it's almost every retailer. How the hell can their DOUBLE prices overnight like that?

I've been regularly eating some of my preps just to keep rotating new orders in and eating the ones with a shorter expiration dates. Looks like I'll stop that now and keep what I have in my preps until I get 6 months away from expiration.

I spend a few hours yesterday evening looking for alternative canned meats but I'm not having much luck. There are still reasonably priced canned meats but none of them I like. Over the years I've tried them all, and there's only a few that were really good.

I will not give into this extortion. There's no excuse for an overnight DOUBLING in these prices. Some canned meats have even triple in cost since a month ago.

I did find one online seller of those cans of smoked ham at $22 for a case of 12 cans. But I don't trust such a small unknown retailer. I don't want to get cases of expired or near expired foods.

This development disappoints me, and not so much because I won't be ordering these favorites anymore. What upsets me is obviously Amazon has become a dishonest retailer when they suddenly DOUBLE prices like that. It's not as if there's a shortage, they have stock. Others have stock. But somebody is trying to make huge profits on food and I will not support that.

I may stop ordering from Amazon all together. That might happen automatically if they continue to DOUBLE prices overnight on the things I routinely order from them.

100% inflation overnight on the things I order is an attempt to rip me off.

Recall? Yeh probably "recalling" canned meats so they could be used by someone other than us common folk
