Comedy Horror Dream with Hope for the Kind

As news of these events starts to reach the wedding guests, people leave in a hurry to get home, to the airport, etc...

From this point on, it appears that "everyone" is avoiding the Apocalypse desperately, but for Adam and Eve - the Apocalypse is avoiding them.

Fleeing boomer mother of the bride won't give anyone a ride to the airport, but the ground opens up and swallows her alive, leaving her hot ride sitting there for Adam and Eve to use.

Unhinged town residents shooting at Adam (who is asking for help), manage to shoot each other, leaving their food behind for Adam and Eve.

Adam and Eve naturally end up together, trying to find a safe place. All around them, the Apocalypse comes for everyone else, both the prepared and the unprepared die.

Adam and Eve frequently try to help someone or bring someone along with them, only to be betrayed by that person eventually being greedy, and then that person dies.

Toward the end of the story, Adam and Eve wander up to a Bearded Prepper's underground house and he takes them captive at gun point and ties them up.

He is a little psycho but not unkind - true GLP personality :-) - but he has a shortwave radio and the listeners are able to ascertain that TEOTWAWKI has truly happened. There is nowhere left to go.

The Bearded Prepper Dude reasons that his rich Prepper Neighbor isn't coming back (another guy with a survival shelter, over the hill from him.) Apparently Rich Neighbor went to New York for a weekend and New York is now a large open grave.

So he unties the young heroes and tells them to follow the trail over the hill to Rich Neighbor's place because he is tired of hiking over there to milk the Neighbor's goat anyhow and don't forget to water the greenhouse or all the veggies will die.

Over the hill they go, believing they have simply been sent away, but they do indeed find a very well prepared shelter complete with small attached greenhouse and a milk goat.

These Gentle Remainders of the Human race begin again, on a slate wiped clean of greed and violence.
