In 1941, the population of the USA was 133,402,471.

In the course of WW2, 1939-1945, the total USA military causalities = 291,557. Or, 0.2% of the population died as a direct cause of the war (over five years!).


Globally, deaths directly caused by the war for the same period = ~ 50 million, or about 10 million per year. The world population was about 2.5 billion.

It seems, if you had a flock of 1000 sheep and were to cull them, using the WW2 numbers, you would kill 4 sheep each year, or 20 sheep total over 5 years.


So, we did not lose anything at all. Rather, we kept gaining.
