"WE WANT TO BE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY": UBISOFT PARTNERS WITH POLICE TO JAIL GAMERS FOR THEIR IN-GAME SPEECH
Ubisoft, the company behind the Assassin's Creed and Rainbow Six franchises, has not only partnered with the Anti-Defamation League to fight "hate" in gaming but is also now working with British police to jail gamers for their speech.

British state media is reporting on the news as a great new innovation.

From BBC, "Toxic gaming tackled by Ubisoft's unique police alert system":

Rape jokes, racism, bullying - if you've picked up a controller, or scrolled a mouse, to dabble in some online gaming then you've likely come across plenty.

The gaming industry, like others where people interact online, has been trying to figure out how to get to grips with behaviour like this for years.

Ubisoft, makers of major franchises like Assassin's Creed and Rainbow Six, has now signed a first-of-its-kind deal with police to try and tackle the issue for its players.

The hope is for this agreement to start a conversation within the industry and see others follow suit.

Working with police

Online gaming is a joyful experience for millions of people every day.

It's a space where friendships are forged and memorable experienced shared. During the pandemic online games were a saviour for many people's mental health. However its dark side is also plain to see. Abusive behaviour, deaths threats and grooming - can be found in online gaming spaces.

"We want to be on the right side of history," says Damien Glorieux a senior director of the Newcastle-based Ubisoft Customer Relationship Centre.

Listen folks I get it 13yr old kids talking about banging my mom drive me over the edge sometimes too but to get police involved is just vastly blowing things out of proportion. Leave them alone all games have a mute option stop being so soft and getting companies on board with asinine ideas like this.

Re: "WE WANT TO BE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY": UBISOFT PARTNERS WITH POLICE TO JAIL GAMERS FOR THEIR IN-GAME SPEECH
Video gaming was ruined when the systems got connected to the internet.

I stand by that.

Very few studios actually produce great single player games these days because it's so easy to churn out garbage ass games loaded with microtransactions like Fortnite.

It's rare great single player games get developed now and it's why when they do they win all the GOTY awards.

It's why the quality of games has totally fallen off a cliff. - it's so much easier to churn out garbage loaded with microtransactions than it is to develope a good single player game.

Mass Effect trilogy, RDR, Witcher 3, Skyrim, FO4, RDR2, Cities Skylines, Stardew Valley, Frostpunk these games are rarer and rarer as time goes on. Even GTA was ruined when the focus was put on online play.

I honestly hope this destroys online play and sends us back to the days when developers focused on making a great single player experience.

Internet gaming ruined games so I hope this ruins it.

I'm the same way. Guessing you're an old school gamer like myself. Highly recommend checking the other titles in my list if you get bored of those two. I literally played Skyrim and FO4 to completion.

I realized all this about a decade ago and decided to stay 2-4years behind the times so I could find those games after the fact.

I recently bought an Xbox X only because I know Starfield will get released this year and when I started browsing through the online store I realized just how horrific the state of games is. It's so bad it's almost tragic.

One game after the next is just online garbage.

I ended up buying KOTOR and KOTOR 2 just to pass the time until Starfield comes out - these games are almost 20years old now and they're still better than 95% of what's on the store today.

A friend of mine also recommended Elden Ring to me but I've found it very difficult to get started on (it's very hard).

Great single player games are a wonderful and thought provoking experience and like everything else they're getting ruined and pushed out of the way for mind numbing repetitive internet garbage.

Good to know. If I ever buy another video game, I will know never to buy another game from the East German Stasi Ubisoft. I don't like commie authoritarian snitches who go running back to Daddy government tattling on little kids and bringing the police into it over a potty mouth.
