It wasn’t like the random lines drawn in the Middle East, Ukraine was a separate unique ethnic and social region from medieval times onward (at times part of Austrian empire, but still a separate people).

Don’t start your history from the formation and break down of the USSR, maps were drawn from distinct regions.

That’s like saying Prussia (yes P) used to include Estonia Latvia and Belarus, so those countries shouldn’t exist now
