Canada: Over 30,000 Excess Deaths in 2022

There were at least 30,000 excess deaths in Canada in 2022 when compared to the 2016-2019 average.

That figure could be as high as 37,000 if November and December data were included.

The excess mortality is approximately 14% above the 2016-2019 average.

There were about 755 excess deaths per week in 2022 compared to the 2016-2019 average.

The Government of Canada under reports excess deaths by over estimating the number of deaths expected per week for 2022, as well as not publishing data for November and December 2022.
