The real solution to solar energy isn't solar panels; its a fresnel lens attached to a steam engine/boiler. | |

Let's see a working boiler. I understand you can melt about anything but seeing it work as a home unit....show me. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 85385007 i will build it; its my choice backup off the grid solution...the carbon taxers may have been able to ban it if the steam was being generated from fossil fuels, but this is completely clean...see them step on the little guy again. |

I have wondered the same thing, using those big fresnel lenses that were used in the old big screen tv’s , with a tracking system to keep it pointed on the steam engine, to generate electricity to be stored in a battery bank |

And how many, say, pints of water can be turned to steam, with a lens, in an hour? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83266736 my electric countertop distiller can do 6 gallons a day plugged in, so maybe 3 in the day cycle as a rough estimate; 3 gallons; maybe more, the heat is more than an electrically plugged in unit as this thing can melt rock. |

I thought about this but there are some issues... 1) Somehow the lens has to move with the sun. That requires some form of energy even if it's you moving it. 2) Steam engines can be quite dangerous. They operate under pressure and can kill you in a blowout. 3) If you aren't careful you can easily start a fire with the lens. In the deep woods where I'm at this can be a serious problem. Personally find Sterling Engines with Geothermal to be far more fascinating, safe, and easier to walk away from. |

Electrically control a servo guiding the angle of the lense, and a motor controlling the rotating disk and we have a simple sun dial. you ever heard of pressure release valves? they work like fuses and release at a certain pressure. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 84968661 a reservoir of boiling water just as with a nuclear reactor, can trap heat for winter nights and keep the greenhouse warm so instead of calling it a nuclear fuel pool, we can call it a magma cooling pool that we place under a greenhouse; or have some ponds in the greenhouse. |
