I had my money in a bank that failed in '08. I never had any interruption in access to my funds. I got a letter stating what happened, that the deposits were insured, that the account had been assigned to another bank and to expect a new card and checks within the next few weeks. All the old stuff kept working. In fact, to this day the routing number still shows the old bank's name on some sites, even though it hasn't existed for years.
