Meat giant Tyson Foods announced that it will close two of its facilities
Meat giant Tyson Foods announced that it will close two of its facilities for processing chicken, affecting close to 1,700 jobs.

The Springfield, Arkansas-based meat processing company confirmed the closure of its two plants – one in Van Buren, Arkansas and another in Glen Allen, Virginia – to CNBC. The Van Buren facility with 969 workers and the Glen Allen facility with 692 employees will close on May 12, the company said.

I wonder if this is a result of the diminished supply of chickens?

That is amazing. After all these years, I've never heard of Springfield Arkansas before.

Maybe lack of demand (?) is caused by the rising Sky High Prices?

When I was a truck driver, I went to the Glen Allen facility. It was on March 13, 2014. They were really hard workers, and were happy. I feel bad for those folks who will be out of work.

Re: Meat giant Tyson Foods announced that it will close two of its facilities
In a REAL world a closure of a mega chicken supplier like this would open up the market to competition. So will it?

Are Americans so fat, poor, and complacent that removing a giant chicken operation like this will result in very little changing? Think about it. These mega corporations are hugely inefficient and overpriced. A few small, lean operations could easily undercut the chicken market simply charging a couple dollars less than Tyson.

there is no reason not to.

it solves several problems at once.

i built a coop with a small run for 6 hens on the side of my driveway last spring.

now i have more eggs than i can eat and plenty of manure for my garden.

neighbors buy enough eggs to pay for any chicken feed i buy.

raising meat chickens is even easier...unless you can't handle the slaughter/processing part.

Wasn't Tyson one of the companies that mandated that all their employees get the vax?

I wonder if part of the reason for the closures, is that many of their employees are now too sick to do the work? Or dead?
