ChatGPT doesn't have an IQ, moron.

Indian developers have an average IQ of around 80.

GPT-4 has an IQ of 141 Stanford Binet scale

It took an SAT test

And I did the conversion

You're an idiot.

Just because it was able to do well on a test doesn't mean it understands any of it. It does not have an IQ.

hardly an IQ test since it retrieves answers from the internet lol

how do you think this thing was trained? it’s not sentient, it’s statistics nothing more

also yes it can code, but it lacks nonlinearity so it (in its current form) could never program anything important

I feel pretty good, actually. ChatGPT is just remixing what it's seen before. The code it produces has bugs that need to be identified, it has no concept of application architecture, and - the important part - it can't solve novel problems.

Frankly, if Indian IT firms start using it, I don't really foresee any change in code quality.

Surely then it can retrieve a 1600 SAT score

And a 155 IQ

LOL!

I’d be surprised if it couldn’t

although sometimes typing math script into searches yields bad results. also if the answers are never published/an exact copy doesn’t exist online, it’s fucked

people get 1600s all the time, ‘standardized’ tests don’t tell you much nowadays since it removes all critical thinking. not even sure what tree you’re barking up to be honest lol

I'm a web application developer; I work mainly at and behind the server level.

I was a little concerned when I started playing with ChatGPT. It didn't take a lot of time to figure out where ChatGPT's sweet spot was. For example, ask it to write a script to validate uncorrupted jpegs. It does a pretty good job, describes what and how it's doing things - but it'll hardcode things like paths and counts, or forget to include error handling. You have to know yourself to have it make those corrections or fix it yourself.

For larger projects -- I could probably direct ChatGPT to build an application in parts; business logic, persistence, user interface, help files, etc. But at that point I could have had a talented junior do it, with a lot less babysitting. I'd rather just do it myself.

Now to be fair and from an operations perspective, AI probably isn't too far from me being able to say something like "Host the python application located at <this URL> on Amazon. Keep ten web nodes in reserve at all times but otherwise scale by five nodes at a time." and assuming I've put all the metadata together properly, it'll just do that. This is the part that worries me a little bit.

Having done a fair bit of phone work in my time, I'm not going to cry about this. Far too many good people burn out in that job.

US call centers, I mean. Indian call centers can all burn down with no replacement for all I care.

Yep, there's Ansible, Chef, Terraform, etc. All with different ways of configuring and executing, and all with different plugins to do various things. I just happen to have a bit of Ops/DevOps experience.

I'm talking about a system a small development team can use with no ops knowhow whatsoever, that won't know to manage security or DNS or the thousand other things that can go wrong.
