I saw them in Fort Collins about 2 weeks ago nothing tonight. Was it this high then?

Can anyone else verify this? I received the SMS but I’m not seeing it on the space weather website.

K-8 is a rare event, as in, if this is legit, we’re going to see some power grid damage.

If we go up to K-9 it’s catastrophic.

Is this how it ends? Not with a bang but a whimper?

Isn’t kp9 a grid down situation? At least catastrophic damage? Or am I way off base on this?

The power went out for the entire block of restaurants in the San Clemente, CA area. Very odd and it came back on after 8-10 minutes.

Some people have reported that they’re seeing KP9 but I can’t confirm anything except 8. Keep in mind though - there are only 9 levels. So were basically standing on the brink here.

Was the Carrington event that happened in the 1800s at this level or higher?

Geomagnetic Storm Update

Minor (G1) to Moderate (G2) storm conditions persist following a brief period of Strong (G3) storming earlier today. Currently the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) is tipped -15 nT south, meaning periods of storming could be prolonged. Aurora sky watchers in Scandinavia and northern UK should all be alert. As far as North America, we will see how solar wind conditions look a little later this evening.
