I agree OP. I don't want that stuff on my ranch. All my vehicles are old because we can't afford to replace them, but why would we want the newer stuff. The metal is flimsy and too many electronic doo-dahs that just go bad. The def systems on tractors are a joke. My 2 that have it have cost me over 20,000 in repairs.

I was thinking about that today while driving my 23 year old car. Why would I get a new one? This one gets about the same mileage as a new one. I don't want or need a computer to massage my ass or tell me the weather.

Because a lot of the electronic controls and safety features are mandated by law, the extra nick knacks are relatively easily installed and is where the real profits are made.

Go and get a "simple" fixer-upper and see how much a reliable rebuild costs. All of a sudden that fancy thing with all the bells and whistles, economy and performance looks like a bargain on a 120 monthly payment plan, warranty thrown in.

That new diesel with all the electronic emissions controls, DEF and DPF systems isn’t going to last for shit. The current government regulations have destroyed all the fuel economy and durability that diesels used to have.

Get a nissan. I have 2. One with 220,000 and another with 150,000. Cheap but reliable. Smaller size but good trucks

If you don't need the torque and payload ability of a Dodge diesel, the 1988-98 Chevy Z71 is an excellent value.

V8 engine, 350 cubic inch, that is very reliable and will take a beating for a long time.

I have a 1997 with 275,000 miles on the engine, and it's still purring along nicely.

As for electric windows on older trucks, they seem to be very reliable.

I have a lot of old trucks, from 1992-2006, and all have electric windows, and they all work properly.

On the other hand, most of my trucks have blend and diverter door problems. Real pain in the ass when you absolutely, positively need defrost to blow ON THE WINDSHIELD!

I dont think it is possible to order a true "bare bones" vehicle today having roll-up windows and no computers or any of the other unnecessary crap which nobody really needs and which adds many thousands to the price of a vehicle.

None of us need all this bullshit that is added to todays vehicles, except the rich daddies girls who cant possibly survive without seat warmers because minor discomfort like a chilly butt is just too much of a burden to want to carry on another day in life!

And when all this BS stuff breaks or malfunctions, the parts and labor is insane. Its ridiculous.
