Was Carol Burnett #meTooing some of her cast? | |
| Wondering Out Loud User ID: 80612538  United Kingdom04/14/2023 03:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Since nobody clicked my reply to another thread and nobody will see it, I'm making this one: I have had the distinct impression that Carol Burnett #MeTooed Lyle Waggoner, ever since I watched the first (rerun) episode where he guest starred, around 2018. No, I'm not saying she should be the next one on the receiving end of this overblown movement, but wondering here. An audience member once asked her how was she so lucky that such a handsome man as (I believe it was Robert Goulet) kissed her. Her deadpan reply? Not verbatim but very close: It's my show; "if he doesn't kiss me, he don't work". I *get* that it was a self/deprecating joke; but could this joke have been based on quite a bit of reality? It looked that way to me with Lyle, and when I heard her say that, my jaw dropped and it cinched it for me.`5 At the end of every show, Carol would kiss EVERYONE: women on the cheek, and men, a peck on the lips. 99/100 of the time, she'd kiss Lyle last. (So she could savor that on the way home?)  Lyle was always a good sport about it, but considering he was probably (see OP's "youknow"!), it must have gotten old for him. Maybe Carol found out/realized that he was one, and that's why he left her show?? Anyone else gets this vibe from watching her CB show?? |

I don't know how many of them are into kiddos and satanism etc. But this was self evident to me: every single time the show ended, she kissed Lyle last, saving the best for last. She had a thing for him from the getgo, ever since he was first the show's announcer: And if you look closely, it looked very awkward for both, week after week. At first, sure: oh that's innocent, she kisses everybody and in some skits, as below, she lets the other woman kiss him. But I'd bet anything that I'm not wrong here. She went googoo gaga over him unabashedly on camera, out of character. And it does look a tad creepy, after you've seen a few. I loved the show too, when I was younger. (Never saw it back when it aired, caught it in reruns, first in the 90s.) And I'm aware that all her costars speak very highly of her as being "very giving" but something rings off to me. And again: I do not dislike her, I'm glad she entertained us, but again... Yeah! (If it helps, I do dislike Vicky Lawrence with a fury, and I'm not saying a negative peep about her!) |
