I was a teen in the 80's, we had "trends". We even kissed other girls for fun.

But we never took drugs to sterilize ourselves or cut off our tits. We never, as a four year old, idolized grown men with a full package who painted their faces and tucked their dick to give us a lap dance.

When I was a teen, we were watching docile, 80's romcoms and planning a future that included college.

Never did it cross my mind that I was a man trapped in a woman's body. I didn't chop off the tits or get a boy haircut, because I wasn't confused. This "confusion" didn't exist back then.

LOL, I think most middle schoolers (11-13) play around with that. It doesn't mean you're gay. It's just an exploratory part of your life.

Other trends from the 80's...big hair. My blonde hair almost had afro status the way I "permed" and hairsprayed it.

All the trends when I was a teen, were temporary.

But the trend today for young teens is to destroy your body, permanently.

Yeah some of the piercings and tattoos are horrific. Makes some look like Satan worshippers.

I was just pondering this the other day but comparing it to the emo culture that was big when I was in high school in the early 00's. Figured that eventually it'll die off and become niche again as people realize it isn't a viable way to live life.

Though as the OP said, this trend involves a lot more than regrettable piercings and bad eyeliner. So I think the repercussions will be longer lasting and likely far more intense.
