Anonymous Coward User ID: 85689635 ![]() 05/04/2023 03:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's a misleading study. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 85689635 It's comparing Gen Z at age 20 TODAY, with Gen X when they were 20 (30+ years ago). Gen Z age ranges from: 8 years old - 23 year old (today) The 'study' attributes higher Gen Z home ownership to the extremely low interest rates during the pandemic, along with the free money the government was handing out. It doesn't factor in the much higher foreclosure rate that's happened over the last 6 months on Gen Z home owners. Here's the RedFin 'study': [link to www.redfin.com (secure)] From article: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80990576 Roughly 30% of 25-year-olds in 2022—the oldest of the Gen Z (born between 1997 to 2013)—owned their home in 2022, a slightly higher percentage than the 28% of Millennials (born between 1981 to 1996) who owned homes at that age and the 27% of Gen Xers (born between 1965 and 1980)—but lower than the rate for Baby Boomers (born between 1946 and 1964), 32% of whom owned homes at age 25. 1946-1964 equal 18 years 1965-1980 equal 15 years 1981-1996 equal 15 years 1997-2010 equal 13 years I am not going to argue here the length of generations because i have found people don't want to hear that. But, it should be the same number at least. Someone born in 2010 was 12 in 2022. Can a 12 year old own a house? Plus it's home ownership by age 25. This is a bullshit article. Yep. I pointed that out on page 1 (above quote), but most people on GLP don't read past the 1st or 2nd post. Also car repos and home forclosures are on the rise over the last 4 months, and expected to greatly accelerate over the next 6 months. [link to www.nbcnews.com (secure)] |

Especially in that we cannot compare financial accomplishments of different age groups when they are at a certain age. Times will be different even among people from the same generation. Also housing availability varies greatly over the decades. Plus, family houses? What kind of houses varies. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78815099 This 100%. It could also be that millennials suffered through the worst economic conditions possible since the Great Depression. It’s okay though. Everyone hates millennials with a seething passion so if they all drop dead in the gutter and die from starvation, I guess they had it coming to them. It’s always cool to see 16 year olds driving teslas when you’re still driving that 98 Nissan Sentra with enormous body damage and mismatched hood and doors. I hope those little brats overdose in those McMansions. Fuck ‘em. It was not fun times for gen x either. Like early on... So, i get you. But, I have an old car, too. I don't hate millennials. We can hang out. What made it harder for millennials is something that happened before they could buy much of anything: 9/11. Things were right for years after that. |
