I've known a few Hawaiians. They eat that stuff every day. No wonder most of them are fat.

Spam is actually good. A great pantry item. Food for when your unable or willing to go get groceries. (Chill) mac and cheese with spam chunks, and a fried egg, topped with chopped green onions. All from the pantry in 15 min. With a side salad from the garden.

You're right, it's delicious.

Pork shoulder is good food.

I never liked Spam until I lived in Korea, they love it there. They even give Spam packs as gifts at Chinese New Year. I take it and cut it very thin, cook it all the way brown, melt cheese on it. Then put some mustard on it. It goes great with beer that way!

The reason spam and other canned food took off in Hawaii is because they didn't have access to as much grocery foods/meats back in the day due to shipping and also running an icebox was expensive.

Had to get ice delivered back in the day, roads weren't as maintained as today and places were isolated. Food spoils easily in the heat.

Spam is nasty and you'd think they would just want eat fresh fish, chicken/eggs and locally grown produce, but shelf stable food was a breakthrough.
