The Supreme Court determined it was just a tax - there is no contract. There is no obligation to pay anyone anything, hence it is not insurance - as insurance comes with a contract that both parties need to consent to , and it protects against an unforeseen event. You didn't foresee getting old? You didn't prepare for your old age? That isn't "insurance" - its entitlement for dumb and irresponsible people to live off of others who acted responsibly.

Come 2036 ( or before) it will be bankrupt.. they will either implement means testing ( you paid in, but were too responsible and save too much on your own to collect) , they will reduce benefits to 75% of what they are now or they will print and borrow more money to pay full premiums - thus driving inflation and the inevitable collapse of the dollar.
