Tornado touchdown in business district of Ava,MO. Some businesses wiped out. Trees on several homes, power out, Happened at approx. 6:15 AM. Storm system heading east. Some winds going through MO area as high as 92 mph average wind speeds were 75-80 mph. This was not isolated to the tornado that struck Douglas county. The Southern Missouri Baptist Chainsaw Disaster Unit is on the sceen at this time. People are advised not to enter the business district of Ava, MO. Emergency crews advise. Highway 76 and PP is blocked by trees and barns are destroyed. |

Just north of square O'Reillys, hotel and businesses are flattened. Some damage to local High School. All power is out and working off emergency backup power only at this time. This track of storms is gaining strength and should continue to do so during reheating of the day. This is a long squal line so stay alert. Anyone in the path of this storm should expect damaging winds in excess of 75 mph and possible tornadoes. |

From Arkansas: Police in Siloam Springs, Arkansas say there has been one death as a result of Friday morning's storm. A 15 year old girl was killed when a tree fell through the bedroom where she was sleeping. A 10 year old boy was rescued from the same room and transported to Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital. He is in good condition and will be released. City officials say at approximately 4:30 a.m. the City of Siloam Springs experienced damage from straight line winds. The damage includes trees down, traffic lights out and power outages throughout the city. The public schools are closed and officials advise residents to stay off the street while they assess the damage and restore power. [link to ozarksfirst.com] |
