Is Windows mocking its users?
When you wanted to copy some application from your Downloads folder to a thumb drive (memory stick), did you ever get this?

"The file (...) has properties that can't be copied to the new location."

So what's clear is that there is a problem with copying the software.

But what are you, the user, supposed to do with this? There is no other information. It does explain why exactly you can't copy your software, what it says is not helpful at all, but only confusing.

What good is telling this the user?

We're all a hostage to what we love.

The only way to be free is to love nothing.

How very sad is that?

Just a normal .exe file, a few MB.

It's not the first time I am encountering this problem (with other software too).

Check your windows security. Windows Defender is preventing you from copying the file. Place the folder in the exclusion directory.

There is something in what you are saying.

I have used Linux off and on for some years though and have become quite proficient at it.

I am in fact only using Windows because I bought this laptop secondhand with Windows 10 already on it, and it's practical for playing games.

It gets a bit more complicated with Linux.

And besides, Linux is not exactly a rose garden either. It can get a pretty bumpy road.

I don't think so. In that case, Windows Defender would have notified me, or Windows would have told me there is a security problem.

The problem is of course that stupid Windows doesn't tell you anything you can actually use to do something about it.

This is what it SHOULD do, isn't it?

Actually was, but keep on being an ignorant ass.

If you just compress the file first, it will transfer without issue no matter what the thumb drives file system, but you won't listen.

Stop your BS.

If you are genuinely "trying to help", then you are just an ignorant idiot.

I am using the internet (and computers) since before 2000, and in those early times telling a noob to reformat his HDD was a popular "joke" as some were probably ignorant enough to actually try that.

What are you taking me for?

Permissions.

Somewhere deep in the murky and innefficient file
tree of object oriented menu boxes,
(as opposed to an actual file tree where you could see every function simultaneously) there
are settings for file ownership(take that),
read, write, execute, delete, etc.

I recommend taking ownership of the root
directory directly after installations.

You can also prevent things like the
network from accessing executables.

Unless they have decided to turn all those features off
and it's just an unconfigurable spy machine, like a mac.
