Get one chambered for the Russian ammo. Cheaper to shoot.

They used to be a good deal, but the prices have gone through the roof. Now, you can spend $100 more and get an AR 15, with the abundant, effective magazines, optics options galore, various stocks...IMO, the mini 14 is way over priced for what it is.

Don't get me wrong, the mini 14 is a good rifle, it's just that their prices are almost equal to a base model AR15, which is far more customizable, and accessories are cheaper.

i put over ten thousand rounds through the 10/22, never cleaned it, rarely put it in a case, and i never had one proble with it

they make the same model in a .44 magnum, which would be nice if you had that caliber in a revolver

The .44 is called a deerfield, i just got rid of one. The barrels on the mini 14 and mini 30 and deerfield are all 18 1/2". Not real long.

Nice compact package and fast shouldering for me....unfortunately the mags are not as common or cheap as the AR mags...forget about the 7.62 X 39mm model tho...a SKS fills that role at a fraction of the cost...the earlier model (Ruger XGI) had problems with accuracy and some key holing....the 10/22 is a great rifle...the Israelis use scoped 10/22s for special work...

I have a Super RedHawk, awesome wheel gun, I had thought about one of those 44 rifles, but really thought it would be too much of an in between rifle for me. I have a MKII Gov't Bull barrel .22, that thing is a little tank, lol, my .300 bolt is a Ruger too. All good...;)

I didn't really have a use for the .44 myself either. It brought $755 used, but like new. They are high, considering. You can get a stainless mini 14 or 30 like new for $500+-.

The Mini-14 lacks stopping power like the M-16. Save your money and get a .308, if you MUST get a Ruger, buy its big brother - the Mini-30 which is chambered in 7.62x39.

I am big Ruger fan, 10/22 is a great .22, but in my opinion a mini 14 is a POS. Ones I have shot shoot about 2.5 MOA outta the box. Not worth the money.

They are both semi automatic rifles. If you are over 18 with no felony convictions or domestic violence, you can buy either.

 Quoting: CaGeD

There is no more "Assualt weapons" ban per say. You need an FFL for a real AR-15/M-16 because it's full auto, just like any full auto, but the Semi-auto civi one you don't. I know the bushmaster is one of the civi versions, pretty sure a SA-AR-15 is still buyable without an FFL.

But I still recommend an AK over an AR, lol, just my personal preference.

They have M1 at Dunhams for just about $600.00. They also run specials on them lowest I saw was $475.00. M1 is my choice but if I had the cash, I would have an M4 in a heart beat.

No...

M1 Garand... M1/M2 Ball ammo (.30-06)

As for 'FFL', that stands for 'Federal Firearms License' and applies only to 'dealers'...

I have no idea what people are refering to as an FFL in this thread...
