Before the pandemic, I rarely saw these kinds of reckless driving behavior. Now I regularly get passed by reckless speeders going up to 120 mph. This is not on the German Autobahn. I often get passed by two cars racing each other on either side of me on a three lane highway. Got passed by a car and a motorcycle following it both driving at over 90 mph. Get passed by cars speeding at 90+ mph using the "slow lane". A Maserati blew by me going at least 120 mph. I watched two cars chase each other at high speeds weaving in and out of traffic. Of course, there is no shortage of the rocket motorcycles absolutely flying at high speeds. I drive in CT and the roads have never been more dangerous. There's been a ridiculous increase in 'head on' collisions due to wrong way drivers and a huge epidemic of idiots weaving in and out on the highway, passing on shoulder, exit only lanes, etc. After almost 40 yrs with no accidents, one of this jackwads wiped himself out while trying to cut off my SUV about a year ago, he spun 3x doing almost 90mph and I thought he was going to roll over. My guesses on causes of these (no specific order): 1. Illegals getting licenses or driving without licenses 2. Distraction by mobile devices or vehicle eletronics (Nav, XM radio, Car control systems (i.e. Volvo, Audi, Tesla etc) 3. Shortage / Apathy of Police 4. Legalized weed 5. Thugs driving stolen cars Anecdotally, I almost NEVER see someone actively drinking a beer or booze while they are driving and I put on about 200 mi a day. Conversely, I smell WEED on the road during EVERY trip I take. |

Probably quite a bit of it is vax-induced brain damage to the frontal lobes - with the result being greatly impaired reasoning and inability to link actions with consequences. Default driving mode on the highways now seems to be reverting to all the video games the drivers have played over the years... See similar out on I-40 in the RTP area. So glad I still get to work from home 90% of the time. Besides not being around shedders in the office, that drive out to the Park could easily be a literal killer one of these days...
