Possible Trafficking Tactic - Use of Small Child in Danger as Bait - CARLEE RUSSELL Missing. Now Found, P. 8

Man this pisses me off. This tactic is tough to defeat unless you are heavily armed and on full alert mode when stopping for the child.

If you do stop, whisk the child away as fast as you can and get moving.

Make weird turns often to lose anyone following you or at least to see if you have a tail.

Search the child's clothing for GPS trackers in the car before you go home.

Do not go home until you are very sure you do not have a tail. if you do have a tail, call 911 and explain the situation to be directed to the nearest Police station.

This technique can nail a lot of people if they are not REALLY careful.

If you get the child, drive away, immediately call 911, tell them what happened & give them your mile marker, ask for an officer to intercept you & lead you to where you need to go.

This is for your protection and that of the child.

Turn it over to authorities ASAP, and back away, unless they need you for a later statement or testimony.

ETA: or better yet, as soon as you stop for the child, have 911 on the phone, let them know where you are and what is happening. Keep the line open to the operator, so she can hear everything & communicate with officers.

You hear about this kind of thing happening but think of it happening elsewhere. Now this happened about a mile from where I live. My daughters have been upset about it all morning.

That would be another good option. Just be ready to drive off, if anyone, other than a police officer, pulls up.

I would grab a toddler, if I saw the baby alone, alongside an interstate. Could not live with myself to leave a baby there to get ran over.

I've been following the story all day husband works in that area. This is one of those horror stories that you think can't possibly happen to you but as a mom if I saw a child on the interstate I'd have to stop. The bait is significant.

My concern here is at night, thugs hiding in the bushes. One thing they teach you in security services is that a stopped car like that in a potential ambush zone is extremely dangerous. Glock or not, they have the better angle on you from the bushes and there could be more than one.

I think LJs advice was the best overall.

I honestly would have been jumping out of my car to save a preschooler from being hit by a car on a road like this. I drive this stretch of road everyday and would be shocked to see a child on it alone.

Me too. I would have as well but this thread has helped me be better prepared for doing just that. I chase down loose dogs to get them to safety before they are hit by a car or something. If I see a woman on the highway (regardless of age) in a broken down vehicle, I will push them out of traffic if needed, and then make sure they have a working cell phone and have someone to call before I leave. A child - that's a whole new level of concern.
