Beasties didn't try to sound black and were not interested in being part of the black culture other than being part of the hip hop music culture. They were true to themselves. Vanilla Ice was perceived as a white guy co-opting black culture. 3rd Bass was another white rap group that got a lot of black street cred because they lived the hip hop culture from their early beginnings and built relationships with key hip hop players. |
