I agree with the point of war being wasteful, but your example is a wee bit exaggerated.

Smart munitions are obscenely expensive. However, I doubt that a conventional 155 round cost even 1% of what you posted.

I have a rather old book about WW 1. At the end of a fairly well done history (written in the 1930s) it was calculated that the war costs would be equal to building a 4 foot tall wall by 2 foot thick from the Swiss border to the English channel made of SOLID GOLD. It was also broken down into how many schools and hospitals it could have created all around the planet for towns/cities over given populations.

War is a racket, but it the way of this world and will never change.

There is an ancient saying; "Truth is the first casualty of war". Today, it clearly would be just as accurate to say "Truth is the first casualty of American diplomacy".
