Recession Proof GLP...theme threads
hey all.....thanks for your membership at GLP....

I have a idea that I have been thinking about.

in the gold threads I have called a recession....I said this will change the way I do everything.

with this I have to confess in the past I did not look at the price of things...if I want it, I buy it.....I no longer can or want to do this..I have forgotten how to shop..so I need your help.

3 to 4 years ago I could pay off my credit card bill each month with $600 to $800 in charges......remember I pay for everything on this card..food..phone..cable..gas....today it cost me $1100 to $1200 a month pay off...I have not changed the way I live .....INFLATION....is the only thing this is.....the price of things have gone up....

Women in the world are the smartest people on Earth...they can feed a family for a few cents on the dollar..

Recession Proof GLP...Coupon ..clipping

this can go on and on... the food stores and mail box has the weeks ads....the best buys of the week..is on Wednesday..News papper food section..
I can pin some threads on Wednesday for that weeks best buy..

everyone on GLP has something that can help.I was in the heating/air business ........so I have some thing to give there..
everyone has their own nitch to help...
I am asking for your feed back on this...paladin

Resist the urge to go shopping every day. Make a list and go once a week.
Stop eating out numerous times a week.
Stop wasting (throwing away) food. Eat it all.
Eat less meat and more veggies.
Make soups.

Re: Recession Proof GLP...theme threads
We need ways to cook for people who live alone and hate to cook. Here's a couple of mine. I like the Knorr brand of pastas because they have fewer icky ingredients. The one I like best is "Veggies". After the pasta is done, I add a can of chicken and about a third a can of peas to stretch the amount. Adding salt and pepper is optional.

Anyway, this gives me 6-8 meals, freezing portions in those food saver thingies. The pasta costs $2.19, the canned chicken costs $2.85 for a total of $5.04. Six servings cost $0.84 each. You can use tuna if you like in place of chicken.

The other one I like is frying up a lb. of good hamburger, then adding a small head of shredded cabbage and chopped onion. Salt and pepper to taste. Cook until the cabbage is done and mixed with the hamburger. Freeze that in portions, too. This one probably costs $1.00 per serving.

A deep freezer is a good idea, but I would advise buying a generator to go with it, and stock up on some gas now; it's not going down any time soon. If the power goes down, even for several days, you might lose everything in that freezer, and your fridge, you won't have your computer to use or lights in the house, or be able to charge your cell phone.... I'm sure everybody can add to this list.

as a single parent..I have had to learn many ways to be frugal...

I almost never eat out..I buy the good spagetti sauce that comes in the good mason jars with resealable lids...eat the sauce...and save the jars...then on the weekends i make soup...beans...and cook some ground meat....then I use my jars to store the cooked food through the week in the fridge...basically I have nice home cooked meals every night...in a fraction of the time..and save a lot of money and clean-up in the process....adding rice to the soup and the beans adds sustinence at a low price...saving the fat from the nice holiday hams makes the beans taste wonderful...buying small amounts of fresh fruit and veggies makes sure they get used before they get funky in the fridge...there are lots of reasons to eat at home..and the health..and monetary benefits are many....

I am a smoker and i found the best imported handrolling tobacco online and I now smoke for about $1.20 a day...and i never have to start the car to go to the store to buy smokes anymore..cause UPS brings my 2 month supply of tobacco and papers right to my doorstep!!!

lots of ways to save...I have a deep freeze full of elk meat and beef...and a pantry full of canned goods...canned meats...rice...not too many beans cause they will stop getting soft if they get old on you...me and my 6 and 8 year old boys could eat for many many months on our food...all i really have to buy is milk..bread...eggs...deli meat for our lunches..and fresh fruit for snacks...we eat like kings...and we are all very healthy and HWP....

Re: Recession Proof GLP...theme threads
If you have enough land and cash to invest:

raise an oil seed crop such as safflower, canola etc.

make biodiesel.

use the waste of the seed to feed chickens and a milk cow.

sell some fuel, use some fuel.

probably the best way I have ever heard of to be totally self sufficient. The oil can heat your house, run your truck, run a generator .

takes acreage. one acre can produce 80-200 gallons of diesel a year. and help feed a cow and dozens of chickens.

10 acres and you can produce enough to really do something.

100 acres and you could make a great living AND have all the fuel you can burn on the ranch.

the harvest seed value is also a way to make money.

plowing, seeding, harvesting can be done with farming equipment from a farmer neighbor in exchange for a percentage of yield. Tractor, combine, oil press and misc. equip needed. You'll have to buy the oil press and the biodiesel processing equip (2-$20,000)

and one more suggestion:

if you live near a major city....move to rural before doing anything like this. LOL.

if in or near a city and the tshtf...you'll be toast before you know it....(you'll have what the desperate crazies want)

this concept is really the way to go for true self-sufficiency! make enough to run your farm, electricity for pumping wells, etc etc...RENEWABLE!!!!

Re: Recession Proof GLP...theme threads
Small differences in cooking & usage measurements can add up fast, and make things last longer.
If you normally cook 1 cup of rice, say for two, cut it back to 3/4 cup. Only you will notice.
If you usually make 8 cups of coffee, and have left over, cut back to making 7. At the end of the week, you have enough for an extra day.
When you get the first cup, turn the coffee maker off. Use the microwave if you need to reheat a cup.
If you do something like using a gumbo premix for , let's say, shrimp, instead of a pound of shrimp, get 3/4 lb.s. Cut the shrimp into halves or thirds, cook a little extra rice on the side even if rice is in the mix. It'll get two meals instead of one.
French bread, cut the slices thinner. Add butter & thin onions to heat, already sliced. No one will notice it's thinner.
Make your own salad croutons. Easy. Use your getting stale sliced bread, cut into cube sizes you like, and bake.
Keep your bread in the frig. It will last twice as long.

This method works for almost everything you eat. Cook enough for leftovers, microwave or quick heat the second meal, and you save electricity. You heat up the kitchen less, and use less cooking energy.

Toilet paper, seriously, you don't need it to be a cushion.
Cut back on the pieces it takes. Really.
Paper towels, buy the good ones, like Bounty, can be washed & reused. Get the precut half sheets, or cut them yourselves. Last much longer.

Cook large amounts in things like Chili, use a little more tomato sauce & water, meat instead of 2 lbs. use 1 1/2 or 1 lb. Make it thicker with a palm full of Masa.
Serve it over lots of lettuce, on tacos, flour or corn, with a little rice, cheap cheddar.
Spanish rice, expensive. Cheap, add to regular rice - a little catsup, a spoonful of Rotel if you have it.

Have Breakfast dinners once a week. Eggs, bacon, with pancakes, or potatos.
Have a salad night. A sandwich night. Or a soup night.

My favorite new one is to thwart the electric company. Before I turn a second thing on, I turn the first one off. Anytime I turn something on, I turn something off first. Use one less electric clock. Turn night lights off during the day. Use outlet strips, and turn them off at the switch. Don't pay for that little red light.
I use battery operated , touch lights in the bathroom, over the desk, anywhere that I can do without a main light .
In the city, windows are closed most of the time. If you have windows you don't open, cover them with plastic & tape airproof. Use starfoam cut the size of window, cuts heat on the window. You can also use windshield protectors, taped in. To top off that , put dark plastic bags cut to fit, and tape on. Use a nice window covering to make up for the ugly underneath.
It will cut your winter & summer electric bills.

More, more !

Reuse freezer bags. Wash & dry. Reuse.

Use the dishwasher every other day. Turn it off after the rinse cycle is done. You don't need the dry cycle.

If you are busy discussing away at GLP, and listening to C2C, you don't need the tv on. Really. Turn it off !
If you only have it on because you can't remember when it wasn't on, and you aren't really watching it, or maybe you don't know why you are watching it, turn it off ! Save $10 a month on your electric bill.

Well, I'm interested in what you have to say but I would like you to elaborate, if you will.

What do you mean by "leverage their demands and consumption"?

And what is it about the 'save food costs' that indicates that Americans have no idea what real food is? What is real food?

Thanks...

AT LAST, THE HOUR ON THE PHONE TO THE ISP GETS TEMPORARY RELIEF.

QUESTIONS QUESTIONS.

LEVERAGE

THE WISE DONT BUT 5,000 USD 1.00 SHARES WITH USD 5,000 IN CASH THEY BUY OPTIONS FOR 50,000 SHARES. THAT WAY THEY STAND TO MAKE TEN TIMES THE PROFIT FOR THE SAME OUTLAY.

THIS WORKS BOTH WAY.

EXAMPLE

JUST REFUSE TO BUY EXXON. YOU ALONE WILL MAKE NO DIFFERENCE BUT IF 100,000 DO THE SAME, THEN YOU WILL GET RESULTS. NOTE 100,000 IS A HELL OF A LOT LESS THAN 300 MILLION.

TAKE BIOFUELS. YOU DONT NEED TO REPLACE ALL PETROL CONSUMPTION JUST TWO OR THREE PERCENT. THAT WILL THROW OUT ALL THEIR MODELS AND EFFECT THEIR PRICE DEMAND CURVES.

ITS THE LITTLE MARGINS, THE TAKING OF CONTROL THAT REALLY COUNTS.

PALADIN REPORT HE PAYS USD 1,000 PER MONTH WITH HIS CREDIT CARD. WELL STOP, USE CHEQUES OR EVEN BETTER CASH.

AS THE SNOWBALL EFFECT TAKES PLACE IT WILL HAVE AN EFFECT ON THEM.

NEXT ADD UP YOUR

TAXES
MORTGAGE
HP AGREEMENTS.

ALL LIVE OFF YOUR LABOUR AND MILLIONS OF OTHERS. THEY GET FAT OFF YOUR WORK.

HOW MUCH ARE YOU LEFT, DISPOSABLE INCOME.

IS IT WORTH IT.

THINK OF WAYS TO CUT THEM OUT, STOP THEM FEEDING ON YOU.

THAT LAEADS TO FOOD. WHAT THE HELL IS "HAMBUGER". DO YOU MEAN MINCE MEAT. WELL MAKE YOUR OWN.

TINNED CHICKEN REALLY IS THE PITS, ITS THE OLDEST MOST WORN OUT LAYERS. THEY ARE TINNED BECAUSE THE HIGH HEAT AND PRESSURE IS THE ONLY WAY TO COOK THEM.

USE FRESH FOOD, ORGANIC OR NATURAL. SUFFER THE HIGHER COST. THEN MAKE YOUR READY MEALS YOURSELF. MOST HOME MADE FAST FOOD IS FASTER THAN BIG MACS AND MUCH MUCH BETTER.

HAVE YOU SEEN THE GOVERNMENT FILMS ON CHICKENS. ALL THE ROTTING WASTE, COLLECTED IN CONCRETE BARNS, BULLDOZED INTO ACID PITS TO REMOVE THEN ROTTEN FLESH AND SOFTEN BOMES. ITS THEN WASHED, AND DICED AND PUT INTO CATERING PACKS.

AVOID SIMPKY BY BUYING A FRESH CHICKEN AND USE ALL OF IT YOURSLF, MAKE YOUR OWN STOCKS.

Pump gas in the morning, you will get more for your money as gas is not temp. controlled and as the day warms up it will expand.

Pump gas slowly, there will be less vapor produced that will be sucked back into the stations tank via the vapor recovery hose.

Do not let you gas tank get less than 1/2 empty.

 Quoting: SAVE ON GAS 769

i can tell you right now that none of those matter. The gas tanks are underground where the temp from night and day will not effect the gas "expansion" unless it goes from 100 degrees
to negative 10.
Pumping gas slowly? If there was such a thing as a vapor recovery hose pumping it slowly would only put more "vapor" into the hose. Gasoline does not vaporize fast enough to worry about this.
you can let your tank get over 1/2 empty .Your vehicles have a evap canister that will pick up the fumes from your tank and redirect them back into your fuel system.
