Question about mechanic's lien/ auto parts removal
As an automotive repair shop owner, if I have a customer

that's non paying, in lieu of going after it, could I

remove the parts that I installed and not charge labor? The

parts have already been paid for by the client and would be

safely placed in her vehicle for her to have to install.

"Something" happened and their money supply dried up.

Now the price they fully agreed upon for the repairs with me

initially, is too high with labor and her 'sons' an

attorney, which I couldn't care less about. He obviously

doesn't have the $2600 to pay me either, otherwise this

wouldn't have been an issue. The stories

changed from her many times about what happened to her money

to pay us, but that's not important here. She's

sue happy is the vibe I'm getting, and I have no issues

walking away from the money; it's about the principal. So,

instead of risking potential sabotage from

them to my good work, can I walk away from her having a bill

and not be legally bound to repair her vehicle if I don't

charge her, and remove all the parts that would've otherwise

been my labor? I'm rectifying this by getting all money up

front nowadays, prior to beginning the work. I don't trust

these people, they're a liability to me and I would rather

safely walk at this point. I'm sure I'm not there only one

That's wanted to walk this road before. I've had enough of

abuse from the fucking public.

Re: Question about mechanic's lien/ auto parts removal
Was the car operable when she brought it in? If it was, even if not running well you'd better be able to restore it to that condition after removing the parts or you're gonna lose big time.

If it were me I would, on principle, spend a couple hundred and chat with an attorney who handles this sort of civil litigation just to be on the safe side.

That's definitely in line. No, it wouldn't start whenever I began work on it.

I will be speaking with an attorney about it though.

I believe that's your best and most common sense move. Alternately you could sue her in small claims court depending on the limits of recovery in your state. Here in Wisconsin you can sue in small claims for up to $5,000. And your mechanic's lien means she can't sell the car or trade it with a clear title.
