Scott Weiland Was One of The Best Rock Singers of All Time IMHO

Dude lived WWWAAAYYY longer than anyone expected him too.

Lived longer than Layne Staley even.

That was a golden era of male singers.

Weiland and Staley were right at the top.

He was absolutely boring and bland. Also every song sounded the same.

I listened to a lot of STP in my younger years. They went by the name Mighty Joe Young right up until after they got signed. I worked at the studio their first album was recorded at, Rumbo Recorders. Rumbo was owned by Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennelle aka Captain & Tenelle.

The parts of the album where Scott Weiland sounds like he’s singing through a bullhorn are him singing through a Mesa Boogie Mark I.

And I also loved his work with Velvet Revolver. Some great songs on those two albums.

About Layne Staley and Alice in Chains.

My favorite band of all time, just heard something I never knew the other day. There was going to be a concert with metal bands Megadeth, Anthrax and others. Dave Mustaine wanted to add Alice in Chains to the tour, the singer of Anthrax had never heard them and was skeptical. He listened to the tape and he was blown away. They become known because of that tour with a bunch of metal bands while they were more alternative.

I love this song. Not your typical STP song and you could almost regard it as soft poprock but it is pretty original and against the grain. Also brings back some happy memories for me. Happy and sad.
