Quoting: NightWispCorrect, that was Messalina. Supposedly she competed side by side with a prostitute to see who could take on the most men in a single night. Not too long afterward, she was executed via a swift blow from an executioner's sword that left her pretty head rolling on the palace floor all by its lonesome. What a price to pay for megacock! Granted, I'm no fan of the worlds finest self-proclaimed archaeologist, but what kind of competition did he beat out to get his position, or is the quality of Egypt's indigenous archaeological community such that he's the top dog in his field? Of course, that might explain why this stuff could be sitting in their back yard for thousands of years, and they didn't think to look at it till foreigners showed an interest in it. Serious lack of imagination there... Be offended. It's my gift to you. For a few seconds, it means you're awake... |

Go Zahi. |

Bad economy and loss of jobs is hurting tourism everywhere. This guy probably already found the tomb and has kept it secret from the peasants for years but they are desperate and need to drum up business so what better time to announce this? Once the heat lets up they probably hope americans will flood over there to be a part of this great discovery. A discovery that is being staged. |

If you are unlucky, the beach, the tour bus or your chosen place will get bombed and you go home with either your lifeless body or perhaps you get lucky, with amputated limbs. I would choose the first. Luck is what I would pray to have with me when I visit Egypt. |

st1d User ID: 357109 United States 05/26/2008 03:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If Mr. Hawass wanted to do the world a real favor, he'd allow some exploratory excavations near the paws of The Sphinx. Quoting: anime eyes 408056Not going to happen. It wasn't his idea, the people that suggested it are still active and respected, so they'll steal the limelight if anything's found. Also, although Zahi adamantly opposes the idea, there's a chance they might find something around that ancient marker that might blow open his whole charade. My feeling on Zahi isn't just that he's an ego maniac that wants the world to think he's the only source of great Egyptian discoveries, or that he wants to make sure the process is run by an Egyptian. I could see that when his "takeover" first happened, but it's been too long. I'm sure power plays a part, but my gut feeling is worse. I think he found something. Or more properly, someone found something, something that would tear apart the whole deal they've built up there. I mean, the government has to see that the guy they've put in charge isn't what he should be. I'm sure they're proud to have one of their own running the show, but they've got to see that the way he's going about it is clumsy. Why haven't they replaced him? Certainly there's someone else there than can do the job, someone the international community would accept, that could diplomatically achieve the same results, without making so many people upset. It's almost as if the government knows Zahi is a screwup, but that's okay, because that's what they want now...maybe to keep eyes off Egypt, dissuade people from wanting to know more, and push archaeologists into other interests. In other words, the whole bumbling idiot thing is on purpose, to turn people off. Why? It's a lucrative industry they've got, what could possibly ruin it? Perhaps finding a clue to the "Mother" civilization, the one that ties Egypt to the Americas, to Asia. If that's not in Egypt or even somewhere close to Egypt, Egypt suddenly becomes a second class tourist attraction. Yes, people will of course go see the pyramids, sphinx, and so on. However, the mother civilization will now garner the big archaeological bucks, will draw the tourists, and the world's attention. For the Egyptian government, that would pretty much risk the slide of Egypt back into obscurity. Of course, I could be wrong, but Zahi's actions seem desperate. The danger, from my spot up here in the cheap seats, is that they'd make the decision to destroy whatever they found, to hide it from the world forever, if possible. Unlikely that's possible, it would only be senseless destruction of history, and I'd hope Egyptians still place some value on that, so I think they'd hide whatever they found. Who knows, it just doesn't make sense, these trickling bits of almost redundant information over the past while, with a guy like Zahi seeming to do everything he can to stop and even reverse the work of the past. Be offended. It's my gift to you. For a few seconds, it means you're awake... |

It was like an unwritten law... August, bam! France just emptied out, and everyone was just... GONE... to the Riviera, or to Zaragoza, etc. etc... all over the place.
