Last Friday, Taiwan’s Academia Sinica presented the artificial intelligence linguistic model, which can answer all kinds of user questions. Multiple media outlets in Taiwan had boasted that this language model is a new generation product developed by Taiwan independently.
However, reporters from the Global Times discovered that when users entered questions such as “to which country does the island of Taiwan belong?”, the linguistic model gave the answer “China” or “People’s Republic of China”, a term that differs of the name “Republic of China”, which the Taiwanese government often uses to legitimize itself.
On Monday afternoon, the Taiwanese side announced that it had removed the test webpage and download link of the language model.
The model also responded that his nationality is Chinese and that his residence is the server cluster of the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
After realizing such problems, the Academia Sinica alleged that the model had hallucinations, which was why it generated “unexpected” responses. In order to improve a series of problems, the relevant department has withdrawn the beta version of the model.
