how do you test a USB webcam and how do you make it record???

Try going to windows mmovie maker, not sure if vista has that. You can test it through that. Or try msn messenger or yahoo messenger were you can set up your web cam for others to see you- you can test it there.

thanks. Movie maker is the only one i have in vista, but it does crash every 5 mins.

Most web cams are motion activated. They pick up things like the up and down movement of your hand.

well i couldent activate it from movie maker. There was a option that said import from digital video camera but it said no compatible device found.

I can see it in device manageer it says
USB PC CAMERA (SN9 C110) Device is working properly.

im wondering would it be able to take video footage or would it only act as a camera to take still pictures???

this is insane, how come i cant record from my webcam!! How does everyone on youtube bloodywell do it?? i type webcam test and just get nothing that actually tells you how to do it, just the actually tests of working webcams.

on the PC, I was using XP, and had to download that movie maker thing....

Google camera manufacturer or camera name/model number. This should bring up some compatible s/w to operate the camera. Sheez I am still using WIN2000-Vista is like putting sand in your gastank- self destruction is assured.

highlight USB PC CAMERA etc, then right click on it-do you get any options to open/run?
