Lured here for strange men's grandiose dreams? My ancestors were very hard working Danish and Scottish immigrants that came to farm, some of the crazier ones went to Mexico.

most of the people who came here during the 1800s were actually of higher standing. it's the 1900s when europe started to go down a worse path, which made many poorer people come here.

You might be on to something. Back in the 1800's the many orphan trains came through the country. MANY trains full of mysterious orphans. They were distributed within each state. More than likely given fake history of themselves and their "Family"... Hence, the strange reveals of the DNA tests.. All those people who thought they were this and that but the tests come back something completely different. The test arent wrong your history is wrong. Back in the early 1900's they had the "World Fairs" where there were multiple stunning buildings that were allegedly dismantled after the fair. Totally ludicrous story. During the 200 years Islam controlled America they raided European coasts and took white slaves and brought them to America.

my surname is still spelled the same, they just changed it so it's pronounced like the english version. i always have to spell it out to people. it's quite convenient in some ways. in other ways, not so much.

The immigrant wave during the civil war brought the worst since the Revolutionary war wave. Both the Revolutionary War and Civil War waves were very bad for Native Americans and Mexicans.

I'm a mix of very old immigrants from 1740 all the way to more recent ones in 1920. I'm proud of my multinational extended families. I'm very lucky as a result.

This is what you're looking for. The first industrial revolution, which brought on the destruction of the self-sustaining, communally living peasant class. In Medieval times, peasants were serfs of land-owner aristocracy, who over the centuries that followed it gained substantially more rights and power over the aristocracy (after centuries of war, pestilence, religious turmoil etc.)

With the advent of the steam engine and many other technological advances, the European commoner was literally forced off the property he leased from the aristocratic landowner and into the squalid living conditions and slavery (again) in and of factories.

I'm not doing it justice by trying to summarise it. There's a whole panoply of reasons why people headed to America in those days. The Irish being a prime example of being ethno-culturally genocided from Ireland and trying to flee to America. Others went to freely live their new religious convictions (protestants from Germany, Scandinavia)

You can find many immigration documents on the Mormon genealogy websites, even if you are not Mormon. I found a ton of info on my family, and we aren't Mormon.

Ttown, I have a few ancestors who just showed up 1850-1890 and I can't trace them back to where they came from.

They are potato famine Irish with very common names, or Germanic from before there was a unified Germany, also with very common names.

They came during a flood of immigration at that time and were likely peasants and servants over there, and became peasants and servants over here.

It's why we're going to Europe in 2030 - to find them :)

Judging by your spelling and literacy skills, I’m not surprised. Probably all the peon brains of your ancestors could handle was following direct instructions. My family, on the other hand, has been here since the 1600s (both sides). Makes sense to me.
