Those who receive BOTH Medicare & Medicare are offered monetary allowances, between $500-3000k by the respective insurance carrier. Essentially for low incomers. These Allowances may offer relief by providing assistance paying for approved everyday essentials such as: groceries, over-the-counter (OTC) products, utilities, rent, transportation, assistive devices, pet care and more.

United Healthcare offers a "Ucard" to regular Medicare beneficiaries, $50 spending in say RiteAid, quarterly. Use it or lose it, doesn't carry over.

Advantage can be fine if you're not prone to issues. But some companies will make you jump through hoops to get treated. If you choose a Medicare supplement plan instead, you will pay more but you'll get the best treatment. They can't refuse treatment and you won't jump through hoops.

That's when you shove a formulary exception up their asses. Yanno how many times I've hadda do this shit for ppl?
In 07, I hadda have a gastric bypass. I wasn't overweight. 5.7 , 135lbs. I took a drug that fucked my pancreas.
Uncontrolled diabetes. Shots/pills no go. Needed the GBP. My insurance highmark Blueshield gave a hard no. Me n my dr filed a FE, dr panel denied, so we went to a hearing in camp hill. They deemed me experimental since I didn't qualify weight wise.

I took a line from the 90s HBO movie "and the band played on"

"how many diabetics is it gonna take? 100? 1000? gimme a number so we don't annoy you with the tens of thousands of dollars in Healthcare bills that'll be incurred, bc we can live another 30-40yrs, heart, liver, kidneys, eyes, teeth, fingers/toes, vascular......when you can CURE ME in 1 100k operation.

10 days later we got the approval.

Drug or vaccine Phenn...you are too young I suppose to get a vaccine for pneumonia...the 2nd one I took caused my diabetes within a month and I am now basically type one..and on lots of I suline.

One year my Medicare Advantage plan held a Wellness Fair.
I thought, Oh great, I’ll get some info and good motivation to utilize the Silver Sneakers exercise program, get nutritional advice, maybe more.
Instead it was a sit and wait and signup to get scheduled for Mammogram, Routine Colonoscopy, and make sure we had chosen a primary care doctor.

this is my first year, I got a foot high stack of mailings, this plan, that plan...had me sooooo confused. Finally my car insurance yeah my car insurance sent me to ehealth which broke it all down gave me the plans that covered my dr etc and I ended up having to choose between 2 plans....I chose the plan with the lowest deductible and highest dental and vision and a $125 otc card per 4 times a year. We shall see how this goes....

Thanks for posting this info. I'm in that situation right now where I have to make a decision. I really don't understand all the lingo and how the processes work, do I qualify? It's frustrating to me, how do I begin the navigation process?

I helped my cousin enroll in medicare, I did a lot of research on what all the plan options were and the terminology.

Please take my word for it and check out this website, they have SO much information, if you get their emails they have a free course which will make you the most well-informed person on how medicare works

[link to boomerbenefits.com (secure)]

Everything they offer is free. They will walk you through everything and have a sign up service which is advantageous in this way: later if you have a dispute over what is covered, they will handle negotiations for you.

But being as well informed as possible is a really good idea and I do not think anyone has as good of information as they do, it's impressive, check it out, they have a book too.

They do not push any private companies. As people said above, the Advantage plans might be good for someone with a lot of preexisting conditions, I don't know, but they present every option.

With Part C Medicare Advantage, the government pays the insurance carrier a lump sum amount every month for each member they have, and that money is paid to them for each enrollee whether any visits or services or used or not.
And if the doctors can find a medical problem, then the government pays more based on the person’s diagnosis.
So the doctors are motivated to not call anyone well and healthy but to find high cholesterol, hypertension, pre diabetic, anything they can use to raise the monthly amount for that person.
Once I found that out , I dis enrolled fromPart C and went back to straight Medicare because I don’t want to cost unnecessary money to the government for no reason.

Bad experience with United Healthcare Advantage. In the booklet outlining benefits, it read 20 days in rehab, but after 8 days, I was dismissed from the rehab center because I had “made sufficient progress”. I did not feel medically comfortable leaving … article I read yesterday says there is a nationwide law suit against United for using Artificial Intelligence , AI, for their decision making that denies services:

[link to arstechnica.com (secure)]

“UnitedHealth uses AI model with 90% error rate to deny care, lawsuit alleges
For the largest health insurer in the US, AI's error rate is like a feature, not a bug.

UnitedHealthcare, the largest health insurance company in the US, is allegedly using a deeply flawed AI algorithm to override doctors' judgments and wrongfully deny critical health coverage to elderly patients. This has resulted in patients being kicked out of rehabilitation programs and care facilities far too early, forcing them to drain their life savings to obtain needed care that should be covered under their government-funded Medicare Advantage Plan.…”

Re: This Time Of Year, Annually, Is the Medicare Advantage Signup. Did You know....
I know that Medicare supplement plans are a waste of money for most

I got bullied by family members into getting one for my mom -- it was a "Plan G" (or whatever) with a $175 a month premium and a big deductible -- that she never met

after a couple of years I dropped it

she recently had a cancer surgery where her portion of the bill was like $1300

same family members are hassling me about her not having had a supplement plan for 10 years now -- and how that's "killing" her with expenses

I try to explain it's better to pay $1300 than to have paid over $20,000 for the supplement plan these past 10 years -- but still they hassle me how it's "wasting money to not have a supplement"

maybe it's worth it for those who have assets to protect and the monthly payments are no big deal , but not for someone who only gets $800 a month from SS
