Cardboard Box Doooom! ... Sales Down 80%

21 minute video to tell us that cardboard box sales are down 80%? No thanks.

People are way scaling back on Christmas. Infact, more and more families have set a limit on the ages of people that can receive a gift. It is usually now reserved for those under 14 years old. New clothing, i-pad, or phone is common. Adults that are giving are trading gift cards... a big waste.

Other families are resorting to doing a special meal and family activity together instead. Like play games/Monopoly,Jinga, shoot and ladders for the little ones or Uno all day, taking long family walks, going reruns movie houses.

No one is in the mood for spending a lot of money.

we shall see….Americans always overspend at Christmas, going into debt to make sure there is a gift under the tree.
it’s always economic doom right before everyone maxes out their credit card.

Businesses are also using cardboard boxes less to ship items. So there's that.

I've noticed that Walmart and Amazon are starting to use less boxes when possible, reverting to using manufacturer packing to ship in or plastic bags to ship in.

This could be a large part of the reduction as I'm sure other retailers will and have started doing this. Cheaper shipping costs all around...

My middle class family is getting together and spending money on food and wine and some kids gifts, no adults. We are all tight on money here in CA. We help which ever member needs more money at the moment.
One adult kid moved back in with us, same with our neighbors around us. It’s the new old way of life now.
There’s a fixer house down the street from me in our very average neighborhood selling for $500,000, 1400 sq ft. How many small family’s can afford a $3000 a month house payment, and commute a half tank of gas a day, and pay for daycare too? Not to mention car repairs, groceries, ridiculous electric bills.. it’s beyond expensive.

Yeah, I know, move out of CA! We did, but husband’s work brought us back, still need the paycheck.

Just made a huge move. Decided against cardboard and went plastic bins instead. Then gave them away. Worked way better.

Hear the railroad down there blowing their horn at the railroad crossing. Boxcars with paper rolls are moving in and out several times a week. The manufacturer sure is using mucho paper.

Yall know yellow trucking went belly up. Well freight on a whole is down dramatically. Not many trucks hauling on the roads now as there used to be. & I can say this too ....packaging , cardboard & other packaging material orders are cratering. Not good .

It's not just retail driving this, either. One might assume that with higher interest rates, fewer people are buying homes and fewer are moving. That would also translate into many fewer boxes than previously sold.
