Those chase cams are amazing. I've watched wedge tornadoes on those last month in Kansas. All live.

Re: Historic tornado outbreak expected today!
The really GOOD thing about living in the middle of tornado alley is that we have some of the finest Meteorologists in the country right here in Wichita [including the quoted Mike Smith of his local Weatherdata company... Mike was a long-time local broadcaster before he went into his current venture].

This must be really SERIOUS: It's one thing to have our local TV weathermen repeating the warnings.... but radio DJ's are doing the same thing to get the word out.

Conditions are still stable [for now] here in SC Kansas.

I am in Eau Claire, WI. Any need to worry? It does look like we could possibly get hit. Nevermind I just looked it up. I am looking forward to some big time severe thunderstorms. They sure get my blood flowing.

What is amazing, the jet stream is acting like April while the surface is acting like mid-June.

....we will see explosive thunderstorm development with storms becoming severe almost immediately. We will see large, damaging tornadoes developing with the potential for over 50 tornadoes the next 24 hours.

hey Gis!

I'm in Little Rock and we've had very similar wind...since Sunday when the storms moved out

I mean this wind is strong and constant, it's weird. It's blowing non stop.

In the morning we get these heavy, dark clouds that push north. Then by the afternoon its clear skies and mid 90's, very humid also.

also staying humid and warm(and windy) and night.

This afternoon though there's more of those clouds like in the mornings...

I wonder if the weather will dip down into AR?

Weird stuff my friend

Well, I am definitely going to take this much more seriously than I had anticipated.

I am preparing a spot in the basement right now for my family...unfortunately the storm is supposed to hit us (MN) in the middle of the night.

Which does NOT sound fun AT ALL.

I'm here in southern Minnesota...hubby is traveling and is
supposed to be back home late tonight...I told him to keep
tabs on the weather. I weeded my garden this afternoon
(no, I'm not posting pictures because compared to the Super Gardeners here, you'd probably laugh at mine) because it's supposed to rain for the next week...or a chance of rain anyway. Hope we don't get any damaging winds or hail...
I might check back if some bad stuff starts to happen around me. I'd better check for a flashlight and find the
radio in case I have to go downstairs....waiting for son to come home from school and daughter from her summer job.
Weather to the west of us...developing...for now it's just
in the low 70's and overcast.

Its blowing like monika lewinski at a job interview here. It hasnt stopped for days.

It will be overcast wtih heavy dark clouds headed NE then will go clear to partly cloudy then go back to dark clouds. The north west top corner of oklahoma is in a tornado watch then you have the majority of oklahoma except the far eastern half in wind advisory.

I hope folks take head of this stuff, from what im reading these storms are moving pretty fast about a mile a minute. Add that to blowing up suddenly and we have very lifethreatning weather.
this year my wife made up a "bug out" bag. candles canned food, small toys for the kids extra batteries, ect. Its been very nice the 6 + times we've had to seek shelter, we just grab it as we head out the door with one hand and were GTG and safe.

I suggest folks do the same, cause it dont look like their will be alot of advanced warning when these DO touch down. Im looking at the national weather and the storms for oklahoma are just now starting to blow up from nothing in the top western portion.

swear to god i watched a "double line" radar signiture go out from alfalfa county area and radiate gradualy growing bigging into a storm's heart then out the other side . looking like a wedge persay, last month.

the storm after it"was hit" then Buldged outwards and started outracing the rest of it. was strange strange strange. the wethermen were even making comments on how weird the buldge was.

on the bug out bag part.

look into getting a UPS

like these

they will keep your systems alot safer and provide power back up systems to check on storms for when the power goes out.

weirdest thing to me lately is that all these strong storms seem to have that "hurricane-look" to them. used to it seemed like the only storms that produced tornados around here were squall line storms that moved east/northeast. these damn things are always twirling counter clockwise.

Re: Historic tornado outbreak expected today!
Right now @ 11:50pm CDT on The WX Channel they are doing update concerning this situation, saying that the potential for extremely violent storms is now increasing by the minute across a huge area of USA.

The latest concern is that the southwestern quadrant of the massive low centered across Kansas & Nebraska is suddenly firing up FAST with storms building in southern Colorado and looking to move eastwards into NW Oklahoma & SW Kanasas regions quickly. This was not anticipated to happen in that area so early in the day during the forecast discussions last night; they were expecting storms to erupt into far western Oklahomamuch later this evening & through night.

Oklahoma City & Tulsa may be in a HIGH DANGER storm category by late afternoon... maybe around 4-5pm storms might be moving in western areas near OKC?

"Big High Risk, Historic Plains Severe Outbreak"

>> WAIT ... TWC now saying the NWS is issuing a TORNADO WATCH for western Oklahoma right now!

--------------------------

Here in Dallas, Texas we are seeing very high straight-line winds gusting from south at 35-40 constant & gusting over 50 mph ... trees are falling per local news & many spots of power outages as lines are being brought down. This is the 4th day in a row of such strange winds (day + night) but today is definitely much worse with almost continous gusting 45-50mph or higher! Another thing to note is that the other 3 days have been hot upper 90's but clear skies (and no observable chemtrail aerosols) but all morning today there have been very large dark clouds (loaded with moisture) racing overhead from the south (Gulf) and going directly north into Oklahoma & Arkansas = much more humid around here too.

ALERT DALLAS - FT WORTH REGION: This area is now being warned that there could be a line of heavy storms approach the northwestern & western areas of the DFW region later this evening as the dry line running out of the northern system moves towards us.

PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0354 AM CDT THU JUN 05 2008

...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM OUTBREAK EXPECTED FROM THE EASTERN HALF OF THE PLAINS INTO THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT...

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING WIDESPREAD DAMAGING THUNDERSTORM WINDS... STRONG TORNADOES AND LARGE HAIL OVER A LARGE PART OF THE EASTERN PLAINS AND THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TONIGHT.

THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE

MUCH OF IOWA
CENTRAL AND EASTERN KANSAS
SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL MINNESOTA
WESTERN AND NORTHERN MISSOURI
CENTRAL AND EASTERN NEBRASKA
WESTERN...CENTRAL AND NORTHERN OKLAHOMA
EASTERN SOUTH DAKOTA
WESTERN AND CENTRAL WISCONSIN

ELSEWHERE...SCATTERED SEVERE STORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE FROM NORTHWEST TEXAS THROUGH THE MID MISSISSIPPI VALEY TO THE GREAT LAKES.

AN UNSEASONABLY STRONG JET STREAM DISTURBANCE NOW OVER NEW MEXICO... WITH WIND SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 130 MPH... WILL SWEEP RAPIDLY NORTH NORTHEAST ACROSS THE PLAINS STATES TODAY... AND INTO THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY EARLY FRIDAY.

IN RESPONSE... A STRONG SURFACE LOW NOW IN WESTERN KANSAS WILL FURTHER STRENGTHEN AS IT MOVES NORTH TO THE NEBRASKA-SOUTH DAKOTA BORDER THIS EVENING... AND INTO NORTH DAKOTA EARLY FRIDAY.

AHEAD OF THE LOW... A BROAD CURRENT OF VERY WARM AND HUMID AIR WILL SPREAD FROM THE SOUTH CENTRAL STATES INTO NEBRASKA... EASTERN SOUTH DAKOTA AND THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY.

THE COMBINATION OF UNUSUALLY STRONG WINDS WITH INCREASINGLY WARM AND HUMID AIR WILL SET THE STAGE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF WIDESPREAD INTENSE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TONIGHT... BOTH ALONG THE PATH OF THE SURFACE LOW... AND FARTHER EAST AND SOUTH BENEATH THE
MAIN JET STREAM DISTURBANCE.

SOME OF THE STORMS WILL BE SUPERCELLS... LONG-LIVED... ROTATING STORMS THAT COULD SPAWN STRONG TORNADOES IN ADDITION TO LARGE HAIL. MANY OF THE STORMS... ESPECIALLY THIS EVENING...LIKELY WILL ORGANIZE INTO LONG... ARC-SHAPED BANDS. THESE BANDS WILL PRODUCE BROAD SWATHS OF DAMAGING OUTFLOW /DERECHO/ WINDS.

THIS IS POTENTIALLY A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO... TELEVISION... AND NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER TODAY.

Good post. Living in SW MO the locals have been saying nothing to worry about until tommorow morning. Looking at the radar this afternoon I would agree that these storms are firing up quick and moving fast as hell. I am going to guess they will be here sooner but hopefully with a little less punch.

....a major outbreak of long-track tornadoes that will continue into the overnight hours.

A number of major cities, including Wichita, Kansas City, Omaha, Des Moines and Minneapolis-St. Paul could be in the path of the destructive storms.

As the evening progresses, however, the supercells will merge with lines of thunderstorms capable of producing 100 mile-an-hour winds.
"The winds aloft are so strong and moving so fast... even a severe thunderstorm by definition will be potentially very damaging," he said.

The supercell thunderstorms later today can be expected to yield "strong.... long-track tornadoes.

the American Red Cross is urging Kansans to prepare for the worst. [link to www.kansas.com]

....predicts "a few strong to violent long-lived tornadoes later this evening...." [link to www.kansas.com]

Forecasters said the Midwest and the Great Plans could face a series of storms Thursday as devastating as those on a deadly day in 1974 when 39 tornadoes touched down.

Computer forecasting models for Thursday resembled those on June 8, 1974, when the tornadoes in the southern Plains killed 22 people.

On Tuesday, the National Weather Service took the unusual step of giving advance warning of a possible tornado outbreak based on the conditions.

In a strongly worded statement Thursday, the weather service warned that parts of Kansas could suffer hail bigger than baseballs, 80-mph-plus winds and "a few strong to violent long-lived tornadoes." [link to ap.google.com]

Forecasters have warned of the threat for days, and many have drawn comparisons to an outbreak on June 8, 1974, that spawned 39 tornadoes in the southern Plains and killed 22 people.

The weather charts from Wednesday and from the day before the 1974 outbreak are remarkably similar, Smith said. If anything, today’s system appears to be stronger.

Upper-level winds will push along any tornadoes much faster than normal, he said. [link to www.kansascity.com]

This has already been a very active year for tornadoes. Experts say 2008 could be a record year, and the pace is already well above the 10-year average for the U.S.

Actually the United States is a very small place. And it could impact crops. They are reporting 3 inch to "bigger than" baseball sized hail.
