why are there bridges and specific crossing points for trains and trams in urban environments? because if you don't use them at the right time you risk serious injury or death or even worse making other people late or inconvenienced due to your own stupidity. it's called natural selection when people throw themselves in front of traffic or put themselves in unnecessary danger, we as a whole are worse off the longer these people's lifespans are artificially prolonged.

Everyone is so quick to judge in these instances but this is human nature, most of us would pass him by... You can't judge anyone who passed him because you would do the same. IF you wouldn't, don't spend time defending yourself but when the moment hits in your life, take action, focus on that instead, that's all we can do! that's what counts

Not me, i have being in several situations and I try to go as far as i can to help...

One day in a desolate mexican road a train hits a car... no phones, no cellular at that time, no hospital close, I drove 2 severe injured guys for an hour to the next city, I even stop in a local pharmacy to get them some solution on their veins and have my girlfriend sustained on hight for them all the way.

The funny thing I remember of that situations is that when I pull the guys in to my car their skull feels very very soft...
like if the cranean bone became like cartilage soft not bone.

we get them to the hospital on time and both of them survive.

In NY I did help a guy who was hit by an ambulance in the Bronx and I also was his witness because they wanted to blame on him.
I defend a black girl who was beating for a black guy on 125 St
I also stops for animals .... so I just don't understand why somebody will not stop to help some one in disgrace..

That man didn't "CAUSE" the accident! When he was hit, the hit-and-run drivers had illegally crossed over INTO THE LANE WHERE THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC. If the criminals had simply stayed in their lane, the man could've crossed safely and would never have gotten hurt.

I know I would have helped him. I would have helped him RIGHT AWAY! I would have gone and dragged him out of the street and then called 911.

I have helped people in less severe situations, and I KNOW I would help in worse situations such as this one.

People were helping then they cut the video. It was a matter of seconds but it seemed longer because it was in slow motion.

I didn't say the drivers were without blame too. However, if you cross a road around a blind corner from a junction you must be prepared for the unexpected, thats why they don't put the crosswalks where the guy was crossing. they put them out on the crossroads where the pedestrian has better visibility.

I came across a cat in the road that was hit. Not only did I stop traffic, but there were three other people on the side of the road that eventually caught him and took him to an animal emergency center.

Not stopping for another human being is just despicable. It doesn't get much lower than that.

when I hear this news a year ago, I was overwhelmed.
Because this tale, contains all the ingredients to make a big legend.
The hero is a middle age, hard working class black guy, who did not think twice to risk his own life to save the life of a complete stranger, even risking his two children who hapen to be with him at the scene. The guy he save was a rich white Jew student who suffer a seizure.

NEW YORK -- A New Yorker's daily commute turned into a brush with death Tuesday when he rescued a fellow subway rider who had fallen onto the tracks in Harlem, authorities said.

Cameron Hollopeter, 18, fell onto the tracks at the 137th Street and Broadway Station after apparently suffering a seizure, according to authorities.

Wes Autrey, 50, a Navy veteran and construction worker, was standing nearby on the platform with his children when he saw Hollopeter fall. Autrey jumped down to the track area and lay on top of Hollopeter as a train passed about "2 inches" from his head.

Outside of the subway stop at 137th Street and Brodway, strangers lined up to embrace Autry and shout "hero."

In the split-second he had to decide as a southbound train approached, Autrey said he chose to stay in the "gutter" between two sets of subway tracks instead of trying to pull the victim back up to the platform.

"I chose to dive on top of him and pin him down and myself down," Autrey said.

Autrey said the rescue was especially difficult because Hollopeter was confused and frightened.

"He didn't know who I was," said Autrey. "He was incoherent. The train comes and I have to make the decision whether to struggle and try to get him up to the platform or dive for the gutter and just push him back. So my thing was to just push him back and lay on top of him."

When asked if the bottom of the train touched the top of his head, Autrey said, "It could have."

The incident took place around 12:45 p.m. Service on the line was suspended for about 45 minutes.

Hollopeter, a freshman at the New York Film Academy, was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was in stable condition, authorities said.
