Neb. Plows Clear 8 Inches Of Hail- Severe Weather Could Hit Omaha Overnight

OMAHA, Neb. -- Holt County, Neb., snowplows were out Tuesday night clearing 8 inches of hail that fell during a storm.

Near O'Neill, Neb., pea- to marble-sized hail piled up on one stretch of roadway.

In Atkinson, there were reports of baseball-sized hail that
broke out windows at the town's airport.

A weather system developing over extreme northwestern South Dakota could bring severe storms to the Omaha metro overnight.

A local meteorologist said he's watching the system as it develops, and said it could form hail-producing storms in Omaha between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. Thursday.

"There's a slight risk of severe weather from Denver to Omaha, so it's hard to say exactly where the more intense storms will fire," he said.

More storms are expected in the area in the next couple days.

The risk far outweighs any benefit as the risk will vary from child to child.

Couple months ago just N.W of Ft. Worth Texas it hailed so much in one area it covered the ground like a winter storm had just rolled through.

Dropped ground temps around 40 or so in the 10 mile area from 70.

And no this is not normal.

The jet stream is being diverted away from the flooding MidWest...
and is now streaming down the central plains.

Here in the southern plains [Texas], the jet stream has
brought us storms/rain. I remember the drought we had
two years ago... so if it is just rain, bring it on !

Glad you are all right, Mopar.

We had pea to bonbon size hail in Houston late this afternoon. A real gully washer it was. We had almost straight line rain from the east, then quiet, and a switch to sideways rain from the west. Strange. Lots of lightening. It was fantastic. The temps dropped like the outdoor airconditioner had been turned on.

Rain is always welcome in the summertime.
But hail and wind are not invited.

In the center of Australia, they've been in drought for so long they'd have multiple orgasms over hail!

Storms toss softball-size hail

Severe thunderstorms again struck southwest and northeast Nebraska Wednesday night, bringing hail to several areas, including softball-size hail near the Custer-Sherman County line, the National Weather Service reported.

The softball-size hail was confined to rural areas outside of Broken Bow, and no damage or injuries were reported.

Sizable hail also was reported in Lincoln, Hayes and Perkins Counties in southwest Nebraska.

A storm that moved through northeast Nebraska dropped three-quarter-inch hail and stripped a cornfield in Washington County, according to the weather service.

Also Wednesday night, a weather service radio transmitter near Cambridge went out. The transmitter provides information to Frontier, Furnas, Gosper and Red Willow Counties.

Cindy Fay, a meteorologist based in the weather service's Hastings office, said the transmitter would likely be repaired by early this morning.
