This war is called - The Global War on Terror.
Lets break that down.
Global = World
War = War
on Terror = Not against the Germans (I) or later Nazis (II).
So using their own world we can tell that we are engaged in a World War on Terror.
This being the 3rd World War since America was born.
Not counting previous limited world wars of Rome or the Churches "Crusades" which were the world wars of their time.
