Russia is rolling out its new, automated self propelled artillery cannons

70km range with standard 152mm and completely armored on a modern tank chassis shared with the Armata.

15 rounds per minute firing rate.

Selects targets using live shared data, calculates the optimal charge, trajectory and shell type. Turret can be remote controlled. Fires 15 optimized and aimed rounds a minute.

Holy Balls.

Bye Bye Ukraine.

I guess they are getting it to battle using railroad.
When mud season starts (if the war continues that far) we will see it really put to the test.

And a 200 dollar drone can take it out. Just a variation of a theme on WW2 tactics. On a modern battlefield, less than 15 minute lifespan.

Well, any weapon can be countered. But Ukraine would need to launch a HIMARS or have an F-16 launch a Maverick at them almost immediately or have an entire Ukraine occupied area destroyed in a couple minutes of firing.

4 of these units could launch a total of 15 X 4 = 60 well aimed artillery shells a minute. Scoot to another spot and repeat, then scoot to another spit and repeat.

In something like 5 minutes, 180 well aimed artillery shells could simply demolish whatever forces Ukraine has along its lines. If used in concert with the new longer range TOS-2 thermobaric MLRS launchers. Just hard to imagine anything that could withstand even a 5 minute attack without being destroyed.

And the range on these units is way beyond any artillery Ukraine has at this point. (assuming this thing really has a 70 km range). That is like 44 miles. Most long range artillery is 14 to 18 miles at best.) And Ukraine is even out of that, so now they just have the smaller bore artillery.

But they have to get them to the front lines first and out of the trials testing.

I guess we'll see when they are finally put into action.

I think it will be doing shoot and scoot. With that high a firing rate, whoever is flying those drones might not live long enough to fly the drones to reach them.

And I assume they have the best armor they make on them.

The flight time of a normal artillery round is 75 seconds.

This being a longer range weapon would be somewhat longer. Maybe twice as long? so 2 and a half minutes would pass before the first round reaches its target. If it does a shoot and scoot every minute, it will be long gone by the time a counter battery weapon is launched. And another volley of 15 shots unleashed.

Unless they are getting tracking data by the US satellite or something, which can improve their odds of taking them out.

Just did some reading about these.
We'll have to see how it performs in the real world to make any judgement.

That 70km/42 mile range ha to be with a rocket-assisted round, I would imagine. We know the Russians have these.

That high fire rate won't last long unless they have an ammunition train behind them. It can only carry so many shells onboard.

More interesting is talk of a rocket-assisted round with a wing and targeting module attached. Something we have tried, but couldn't make work.

The Russians have developed some kind of a small short range man-portable emissions homing missile to target drone operators. An idea whose time has come...

Supposedly tested it last week in Avdeevka.
We know they had the whole place blanketed in EW jamming, with GPS and Starlink blocked over a wide area.

Well, Ukraine is already falling, and rather rapidly now that they have lost their last citadel fortress.

Unless they have any more dug-in ultra hardened locations, or happen to get a massive influx of weapons, the front lines will be moving a lot faster toward Kiev.
