Re: Comedian George Carlin has died
George was funny back in the 60s and 70s. As he got older he became cynical and negative. He became a crotchety old geezer with a bad attitude and not very funny any more. His early work was funny be he lost it when he got so political and critical of just about everything.

This is my favorite clip of him:

This favorite clip of yours sounds just like the devil himself. Every word out of his mouth, in direct contradiction to the holy scripture. They can be trusted 10,000% more than any comedian ever dreamed of. Especially one who looks, dresses, and acts like a demon.

You're a sad case, indeed.

Carlin was a self-professing atheist and most of you people think he was some type of comedy god.

What the hell is wrong with you people?

wtf

I hope that god is as great as George C.

In fact, I hope that god is exactly like George C.

I'm sad to see him leave the planet. He just was
a wonderful and heartfelt person behind all the
crudeness and 'bad language'. He cared, which is
more than I can say for 'god'.

Only on a planet as sick as this, could someone say THIS with a straight face.

That's because you've convinced yourself that the Bible was written by your invisible father-figure in the sky, when, in fact, it was written by men nearly 2000 years ago.

When you stop the self-delusion, you'll realize that Carlin was far more on-mark than that book you worship ever could be.

Some of us have dedicated much of our lives pursuing truth, and have realized how much of a fraud the Bible is. We don't hate truth -- we merely recognize the power of cults over their members. Such people should seek deprogramming. But of course, most won't -- they are too far gone.

Geez, you guys just can't wait 'till someone non-christian dies so you can get on your high-horse.

I hate to burst your bubble, but just last night on Larry King they played a clip where he outright said that he was not an atheist and had nothing against God or Jesus or whatever might happen when he dies. He simply didn't profess to know what happens when you die.

He was very anti-religion in his act, yes. But the reason why is precisely because of the type of people who have posted in this thread. The ones who are in it for the wrong reasons and miss the message entirely.

Anywho, it's sad that this thread got hijacked like it did.

A day in history? I can't believe this thread is still going. He was just a person like you and me. There will come a day when no one will remember the Godless. That's the way it will be. We christians are upset with this thread for a number of reasons. Some of you act like he
was/is a god. Some of you truly believe that he is floating around, watching over us or that he is in heaven.
But George himself did not believe those things so I find that interesting. Some of you assume we've never heard anything that he has done, when in truth some of us have
and I bet most of you weren't even born yet. Some of us have life experiences that have shown us without a doubt that there is a God...that we were in danger or in a crossroads in our life where we wouldn't have made it without God either protecting us or hearing our prayers.
The main thing getting repeated is this notion of fairy tales that we believe in; but one only has to open a history book to realize that Pontius Pilate, Herod and others were real, existing people. Your argument holds no logic. I feel like I'm debating with a bunch of highschoolers and maybe I am. Jesus died a very PUBLIC death. I find it interesting that some on this board are calling it like they see it. Here is a man that died, not knowing Jesus Christ. He slammed Jesus, the Ten Commandments and God. He made his living doing this. And the world accepted this. So now he is dead. And we are just saying that you are wrong when you say he is in heaven, or looking down on us...whatever. It's simply not true. You would expect all of us to just nod our head in agreement to everything you have said concerning him? You unbelievers are the first to call us fools but yet we are expected to contradict what we have said in the past and say...oh yeah....he's in a better place? I don't think so.
You reap what you sow. We are not going to agree with what you are saying. We have that right. And on top of that, we
get called names. It's not even highschoolish...it's straight out of Junior High. The biggest problem I have is
that eventually--we all die. The people on this board who
aren't believers are some of the most angry, bitter people.
And so was George. Where did it get him in the end? Where is it going to get you? What's an even bigger fairy tale
is believing this earth and the universe with all it's complexities was just one big happy accident. Every single thing is random. You are slapped upside the head with miracles all around you and you still refuse to see. Science is just all of man with a bunch of theories. And they keep changing them...changing answers and you trust all this. You put your faith in that. Heck, I remember when they found that the rings of saturn were braided and they were all shocked. They don't know everything! We are all spiritual being that will all someday have to stand in
front of God.

Well said!

It is no secret that Carlin was one of the pioneers in promoting atheism in America.

And look where America is today.

We are all better off for his passing.

Hard?

Yes!

But it's also the truth... and truth is more often than not a hard pill to swallow.

Poster...what I'm trying to say is that this man (who did indeed had a lot of influence) influenced people to not believe in God. There are some on this board that are parroting exactly what he believed. And we christians
believe that he dragged/is dragging millions of people
to hell because of it. Will you then thank him in hell?
I wouldn't think that is so great. Someone else posted
that same thought. This world is fleeting. Any joy one
comedian brought is temporary and soon forgotten. Eternity
is a long time. What we believe on this earth in life will most certainly determine what we will be doing 10,000 years from now. Our lives are like a flower that eventually just withers away. But our souls/spirit live forever. We have a loving savior who provided a way. He died a very public death. It's fact. Just because some refuse to accept this doesn't mean it's not the truth. Jesus did not lie. There was no hidden agenda or false motivation. And this comedian slammed him. How tragic. We're on this board because believers and unbelievers alike all sense something coming down the pike. Please accept Jesus now while there is still time! It's not too late for you!

Re: Comedian George Carlin has died
A wonderful Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much , and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Having a narrow viewpoint is not entertaining the possibility that there is a God of the Universe that died for you and wants you to spend eternity with him and loved ones. How sad that Bill Maher genuinely cared for this man and yet because they rejected the message and salvation in Christ, that they will not see each other ever again.
The narrow view is not christianity. The truly narrow view is the rejection of the sacrifice made for you out of love.

Doesn't take a lot of effort to turn that on it's head:

A narrow viewpoint is to reject the possibility that you are in fact, wrong.

There is nothing Christian about ramming your personal beliefs down other peoples throats, or using the death of a well loved man as a soapbox to parrot your simple minded perceptions.

Fake Christians disgust me. You'll never encounter a more disgusting hypocrite. The foul stench of self righteousness hangs about them, like a cloud of flies.

Witness your comments on maturity. If you were twice my age, that would put you firmly in your late seventies. This assumption on your part, is just another symptom of the high regard you hold yourself in, and the superiority you feel over the "poor lost" souls that surround you.

If we want your opinion christard, we'll fucking ask for it. Quit using a mans death as an excuse to parrot your own "narrow viewpoint".

Always outspoken and never a man to hide his opinions, Carlin most recently hit the headlines after speaking of his doubts about the official 9/11 story during an appearance at Borders bookstore in New York City last October, just a few blocks away from ground zero.

Asked what he thought of the 9/11 truth movement and how Bill Maher’s show was interrupted by truthers at the time, Carlin responded, "I always question the received reality."

"The consensus reality is often intentionally misleading," he added.

Asked if he would support a new investigation into 9/11, Carlin was skeptical, stating, "They don’t investigate themselves in this country - it would be a whitewash, it would be like the Kennedy thing, it would be like everything."

"The people who are in charge do what they want and they will always do what they want, power does what it wants to and I wouldn’t trust an investigation," Carlin concluded.
