well fuck-whit if you look in the videos you can clearly see the "explosions"(for want of a better description) carried on after the lighting shut off.

also, the electrical lighting system on the bridge will have its own earthing system which is integral. why would the charge find its path to ground up at the top of the bridge when it has its own ground millimeters away ?? fool boy

maybe if your lucky there could have been some high voltage supply cables going from one side of the bridge to the other(not part of the lighting system)
running HV along the top of the bridge dosent seem wise to me.

And PS where were the tug boats that guide the ships through the approach and departure of the port?

this accident kind of reminds me of when a cargo ship lost power and steering on the Mississippi in New Orleans in the 90's When it lost power it collided with the wharf at the River Walk Mall. It stands out to me because I was there early that morning because I was in town for a wedding the day before, I went to the train store that morning before starting my 8 hr drive home. I heard about when I got home and it was a weird feeling that I was in that shot at the mall where the ship hit just a few hours earlier

Yes, there are always conduits with electric wires running along these bridges. They would create sparks. If you take out a pier on a bridge like this, there is no reason why you would need to also use explosives on the superstructure to collapse it. The bridge is coming down without any additional help.
