Having been exceptionally poor I remember having potato dinners. Any combination of fried potatoes, mashed potatoes, stewed potatoes, baked potatoes,scalloped potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc..

Of course the truly poor must be gravy connoisseur also. Water gravy, onion gravy, milk gravy, tomato gravy, red eye gravy, chocolate gravy, etc..
