It feels like you're awake but you can't do anything, can't move, try to yell but nothing comes out. I usually get them when my schedule gets crazy and I'm not sleeping enough. Especially when I'm going to sleep at 6 or 7 in the morning. They can be a little unsettling. I saw a shadow guy once. I still remember it like it was yesterday. All black big hat, sneaking around the room. I was in a small old motel in Hollywood. Happened in September 1992. Scary as all hell. It wasn't until just a few years ago that I heard people talking about them on C2C. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 464592I agree. Soon the shadow will tell him to burn down the house or murder you in your sleep. |

They will go away once he stops being afraid. He has to learn stand strong spiritually. He's gotta stop worrying "Oh no, what if they come back tonight?" and just close his eyes and get some sleep. He's giving this power over him. That's where the things are drawing their energy from. That's why they keep coming back. Is he religious? Tell him to pray or get a priest's help if he can't muster up enough courage to get over it himself. Ignoring it is a start. If he's not religious, he can assert his dominance over his living space by saying aloud or in earnest in silence, "I am sovereign here, this is my space. Nothing is allowed here that I do not consent." Or something down that line, he can personalize the words to make them his own mantra. Dreamcatchers really do help as well. |

And Note to you Mother's out there Don't let you Babies grow up to be Roommates. Quoting: SixEyedcheeseballWhen my daughter was only 10 years old, one of these black shadow creatures appeared in her bedroom, crouched down and, what looked like to her, holding a baby. She pulled the covers over her head to "hide" herself from the monster. All she could see of "it" was the whites of its eyes. That wasn't the only time she was visited, but not by the same spook. They appear so as to weaken faith, not only of the victim, but family, too. It seems to be a lifelong project with them as she is still experiencing anomylies at 45! However, she is not afraid of them anymore. No harm done. . |

It is NOT chemically induced, either. It begins when she is half asleep, but she becomes fully aware of what's going on...can't move, can't cry out. She's learned to wait it out, then goes to sleep. . |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 465333 United States 08/04/2008 12:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You shouldn't sleep looking at a television or mirror when trying to sleep IMO. Whether they are gateways to other worlds or just play tricks on the mind doesn't matter, they should not be facing you when asleep. Or try covering the TV. I would also suggest: let as much natural sunlight into the room as possible during daylight hours. If the problems keep up, he should sleep somewhere else or move the couch. If that doesn't work, have a local priest come through and perform a blessing. Put a crucific or other holy image of choice on the wall somewhere. Sleep with a rosary or similar object near the bedstand if that helps too. It's a bad idea in general to sit around in the dark looking for objects. Your mind can and will play tricks on you and invent "objects." Sounds like your roomie has more basic sleep issues too. Nothing wrong with sleeping pills, but maybe he/she should take a look at their evening/nighttime habits. Are they eating late at night? Bad idea. Are they blaring the TV or music before going to bed? Bad idea. Is there a lot of commotion or energy or loud or exited talking before going to sleep? Bad idea? Are there bright lights on before going to sleep? Bad idea. Is your roommate lazy or sedentary during the day? Get some exercise and stimulation in the proper time (daytime). Half of sleep problems IMO are people way out of whack in their daily activities. Burn up your mental and physical energy when the sun is out. After hours, dim the lights, chill out and simmer down, reduce stimulation and easy into sleeping time with quiet and sooting activities and environment. |

X3 User ID: 366128 United States 08/04/2008 12:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Shadow people are actually just shadows of ghosts, sometimes you see the shadow instead of the actual spirit. He doesn't have to be afraid, they exist outside of time so they don't really know whats going on here and are not out to get him. Also one more thing, religion won't make them go away... It's more of the energy you put behind it. If you hold a stick and truly believe that it will make them go away, it will. FYI> The reason he sees these things is because of the pills, his mind is awake while his physical body is asleep. It induces the paralyzation causing him to have astral vision. |

I was wide awake and suddenly saw a sharp dark black shadow of a silhouette of a person glide across the wall of my room. Never saw it after that but I have no idea what it was. I say burn all of your bridges while you still have control of the flame. We are like flies crawling across the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel: We cannot see what angels and gods lie underneath the threshold of our perceptions. We do not live in reality; we live in our paradigms, our habituated perceptions, our illusions; the illusions we share through culture we call reality, but the true historical reality of our condition is invisible to us.” |

The REM (rapid Eye Movement) state is a vital part of how we function. If you have insomnia and must take the sleeping pills during the week so you can work - then do not take the pills on the weekend or any days off. Let yourself sleep naturally without medication and notice the difference after a night of natural deep sleep. |

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened. |
Saxon (777) User ID: 315937 United States 08/04/2008 02:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My roommate sleeps in the living room and didn't tell me until a week ago that he sees "shadow people" at night crossing the TV screen when it is off (he now keeps the TV on all night)60 inch screen Quoting: SkyWatcherThen he started seeing them on the front wall and then on the side wall, getting closer to where he sleeps. I told him to tell his Dr in case some of his medication is causing it but he is afraid the Dr will think he's crazy. He said it started when we moved into this apartment in March....I sleep in the bedroom and have not seen anything but I do have "strange dreams",I had them before we moved here though. Now my roommate sleeps with the light on as well as the TV because the last thing he saw was not a shadow, he said he saw a woman crouched down in the middle of the floor and she had a small shovel in her hand and was digging through the carpet and kept looking up at him, and a man was standing behind her with a big shovel and was watching her. It scared him so bad he called out my name and the woman and man disappeared. He does take sleeping pills prescribed by the Dr but he has been taking them for years and swears that he is awake when he sees these things.....has anyone else had these experiences or heard of anything similar? Your roommate is more than likely a clairvoyant type with the special "gift" of being able to see those spirits trapped here in their varied states of existence. These abilities can kick in at any time in someone's life, they don't necessarily have to start at childhood. If this is the case, then spirits from all over will come to see him like moths to a flame as they can tell who is able to communicate with them and/or see them. There's a new show on the Discovery channel that highlights 3 different people every week who are going through the same thing. It's associated with the show "Paranormal State" on that same channel. Spirits trapped here are typically thus because they have unresolved issues, and your roommate is seen as someone who might be able to help them. For instance, the woman digging her own grave with the shovel was probably trying to get him to resolve her own murder issues so she shows him the whole murder scene. That was probably her murderer standing behind her. In any regard, he's probably not crazy, just like all the people they help every week on that show (I think it's something like "Children of the Paranormal") That's what just about everyone with this gift thinks when they first start seeing the very real spirit realm.
