People like the Osteens, and there are lots of them, understand that above all else, TITHING is what's important to a church.

Tithing, or giving a TENTH of your entire income to the church, is what makes the wheels go round. We're not talking keeping the lights turned on in the church building itself.

We're talking about massive amounts of money, particularly from a church with 25,000+ members who happily "make that gift."

"Make that gift." Fucking unbelievable. As if MONEY makes God happy.

And giving that money to a slick-talking Southern Baptist used-car-salesman pastor who is more concerned about his book deals and bigging larger CHURCH CORPORATIONS than the "salvation" of his own "flock" certainly doesn't please God.

People seem to forget mainly AG that if the majority of us had acted that way we would have been tased or worse.

As long as people remember that it's not Joel Osteen they are supposed to be worshipping when they listen to him, they will be okay. If he wants to spread his message and his interpretations of the Bible, he can. The Truth doesn't change just because people spin it.

Jesus had no problem with people having abundance.

Take note of what Jesus said here:

Also, though you know how to clip verses, you have no discernment of meaning.

When Jesus speaks of abundance, he is speaking of spiritual matters, not material ones, which you would understand if you would read His entire discourse.

You see Osteen just goes in the opposite direction, the way opposite direction, from the you are a sinner, repeant!!!, doom and gloom pastors. His approach tickles the ears more. More money to make using this feel good candy gospel approach.

So he is just on the opposite side of the spectrum from those other type of pastors. Jesus would respect and praise someone who takes his teachings and manipulates it. I would hope not.

The best approach for understanding the truth in my opinion is reading Christian apologistic books, The King James Bible of course, and even pastor Harold Camping speaks the most truth. Camping's Bible intelligence over Osteen's can't even be compared. Osteen probably hasn't even read the whole bible or he is reading some watered down fluffy one and not the King James version.

The problem with Osteen's supposed biblical message of abundance is that we live in a world where bad things can happen....fortunes can be won and lost overnight. This
message of abundance would never fly in a place like Dafur.
Many innocents are harmed and it is not their fault. This
is taking the message of the gospel and turning it into
worldliness. It is NOT from GOD. If you lose your "abundance" you can also lose your faith....it
is a very seductive, sly message that twists God's word.
I watched Joel Osteen on Larry King Live and when asked
about Jesus being the only way, he danced around the question. Many of the disciples lost their lives because
they would not deny Christ. When I saw that, I had my answer. You have to take a stand...and not placate everyone. You're either for Jesus Christ or against.

Amen. Lukewarm Christians will be spewed out of His mouth, as He has said.

Also, when Jesus spoke of "abundance", He was speaking of spiritual abundance, not material. Life more abundantly means living with the peace that passes all understanding, whether you are materially abundant or not.

Now would you lump in Deepak Chopra into the Osteen camp? I tend to like Chopra's point of view a lot more than Osteen's though.
